Struggling to cope with my tourette's.

Hello all, i was diagnosed with tourette's over a year ago. I have 2 types of tourette's one is motor tourette's and i can't remember the other.

My tourette's are driving me nuts! From twitching my neck, head and arm, making strange grunting and squeeling noises, sniffing a lot and very loudly at that the list goes on. It's starting to really upset me and effect my life.

My mum and girlfriend have gotten used to my tics/tourettes but i haven't.

They make me feel really down, depressed and a bit like a freak sad

I'm just looking for some friendly advice and help. Any advice on how to combat my tourette's or even a way of calming them down ? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi sam i am currently 19 but have been showing symptoms from a young age but i was diagnosed when i was 16/17 years old. My mum was concerned when she noticed i was twitching and making noises more frequently so she took me to the doctors and from there i was sent to hospital to see a consultant who specialised in tourettes. I have been put on all different medication but nothing seems to work. I find when I'm stressed out, Playing the computer or if I'm angry they get so much worse.

i hope this helps a little.

Blimey. . You've just described my son charlie he's only 8. I can't seem to get him looked at , he goes to the Dr's on a regular basis because he isn't eating either and he doesn't sleep so the Dr can't believe how much energy he has. He's been given some medicine to help him sleep because he just can't seem to shut himself down

I'd definitely say to the doctor that you think he might have tourettes and ask for it to be looked into. Thats what i had to do. When it comes to sleep I'm not great either i sleep most of the day and I'm up all night. Sometimes i go days without any sleep. My tourettes keep me awake most nights but I've found listening to music through my headphones can help.

I'm going to get him in this week if I can, charlie hasn't found anything that helps as I don't think he understands yet. We watched a video on YouTube about children living with tourettes and he got really upset with himself and said he does what most of them kids do and then we wrote down what he thinks he does is unusual and I'll be taking it to the meeting with me on weds. Thank you Stuart you've been a great help.

I'm really sorry to hear that i felt the exact same when i realised i had tourettes. I felt really bad and down but after some time you stop noticing it.

I have a YouTube channel of my own and it can be difficult making videos with tourettes but it's helped me become more confident and control them.

Does Charlie have a favourite character from a cartoon or a show ? i could review his favourite character for him on my channel and give him a little shout out. Just to cheer him up smile

Your honestly more than welcome i hope you find help at the doctors.

If you need anything else I'll be more than happy to help!
