hey there, so I've been struggling with insomnia for 10 months. There were a lot of nights where I would do 1-3 hours of sleep or no sleep at all. There were days where I would not sleep for 2 days or so and there were times where i was irritable. I would have slight body aches on my upper arms, on the balls of my feet and on the sides of my legs at times. There were times where I used to be reliant on sleep aids and i quit taking them a while ago. I drank lavendar chamomile tea at times but tonight I didnt take it. I've been dealing with stress a lot during college and it's not all the time but I get stressed often. Even before then I struggled with it and also I used to have food anxiety and things of that nature. What was you guys experience with insomnia? I would like to know and what helped you cope with it and what didnt?

I have had insomnia for almost 8 months. Not sure why it started maybe stress a couple of days before triggered it. After a couple of nights of poor sleep I got very anxious and each night onwards I started to dread going to bed, when I did my heart began pounding and I sweated a lot - both of which making it impossible to relax and sleep. I made things worse with the extreme worrying about not sleeping. When I did sleep after tossing and turning for most of the night I would get intense dreams and wake up a few times. I rarely remembered my dreams before having sleep issues, apparently sleep deprivation can give you more intense dream recall. The rare times when I was relaxed I did fall asleep much quicker.
I think in 8 months I can count on one hand the nights I have got to sleep straight away and stayed asleep all night. All the other nights I have either took a very long time to fall asleep, not had any at all (thankfully since late November I have only had 3 completely sleepless nights) or woken up a few times in the night.
Unfortunately in February I became reliant on alcohol every night to get to sleep but the sleep quality on it is not great. I had a bit of a break from drinking last month when my doctor gave me some Zopiclone for sleep but I built a tolerance quickly to them. I'm still drinking but I am going to seek help to stop as I have become an alcoholic. It's a bit sad really as before having sleep problems I rarely drank alcohol.
