Often you need a broad spectrum antibiotic. One of the cephalosporin drugs work well for Ecoli. I like Cefuroxime. My opinion is that antibiotics need to be given for a longer period of time for some persistent UTI's. The more the short course fail, the more difficult it is to free yourself from an UTI.

I would write to your doctors and state what you feel. Include in writing if they can confirm what your infection is. Ask them if it is applicable to have a urine sample tested by PCR.
It's surprising what some individuals have never even heard of.
A doctor specialist stated on television recently that in some instances a patient may well know about a subject which has many complexities that is affecting them more than the medic because they the patient has rigorously researched their problem on the internet. He of course is one doctor in millions who would say such a thing which is truthful.
The vast majority of doctors may well resent very much a patient who informs them of items
they should know about....... to hell with that I say. A persons health is the most important attribute we possess so why should we not protect that attribute to the best of our ability?

You are very welcome. I hope you have success if you write..... 'They' may well not like being written to but I have a shed load of letters that prove if necessary there were a lot of mistakes made for my best treatment.

I don't know if this is your first UTI or have had lots ! If you read through the posts on this forum you will pick up loads of good information. I used to get UTi's for several years sometimes twice a month !
I had tests & it was always Ecoli. These are a few of the things i tried but do your research as well.
Drink plenty
avoid a lot of sugar
try supplements to boost your immune system
Practice good hygiene down below!
try decaf tea & coffee
try DMannose for prevention
some take cranberry but research is mixed
some people take supplements or food to alkaline the urine
when you urinate make sure you totally empty your bladder.
not sure with your name whether you are a male of female but i take vagifem which is for post menopausal women & gives estrogen to help prevent UTI's.
Alcohol can trigger UTI's
eventually my UTI's slowed, they can come back if i am run down or unwell.
I now haven't had one for a year .
Sometimes you will need a weeks dose of antibiotics rather than three/four days
Always rotate the type of antibiotic you use As you can become immune to the same.
hope this helps .
