if anyone reads this and has any advice what so ever please tell me.

You must must see your doctor. There is no reason for you to suffer like this. It is very possible that some neuro-chemistry has altered slightly. You may need a stint on anti-depressants.

Try, if you can, to get some exercise, be it in your garden or living room. And join some online chat rooms (sensible ones) to practise communication skills.

I hope you had a nice Christmas.

Hi Nicci i just wanted to say that i know exactly how youre feeling last year i was in your position with very bad anxiety and mood swings.

Im wondering if its the medication you are taking because some can make you feel like this. Last year i was taking citalopram and i found it made me have mood swings, plus i often went on and off them which makes your mood swing more. Somedays i didnt want to go out i just stayed in bed because interacting with anyone made the moods more anxious.

I think you need to perhaps try another antidepressent, personally prozac works well for me but everyone is different, i felt bad on citalopram it didnt lift the depressed mood and paroxetine made me hypomanic so they do cause different effects.

First you need to get those moods stabilised so the depression is lifted, i think once your depression is lifted your anxiety will decrease and you will feel less up and down. It may takes a month or longer to get yourself levelled out but it WILL happen smile

Last year i was convinced i had bi polar but it wasnt that at all it was messing around with the medicines that messed up my brain chemicals.

And made the mood swings come on.

As you wrote this in july you may have found things are ok now and your life is getting better but i know what it is to have social phobia and feel as you do if you want to chat anytime then get in touch and let me know how things are going.

Anyway i wish you and your daughter a happy 2009 and remember things will get better best wishes jo

Hi, i've been there.  My son is now 8 and so expects more from me and it is sometimes very hard.  I would recommend that you confide in another parent and ask if you can do things together to gain confidence.  Also ask your doctor to refer you for CBT..  They will give you tasks and by learning that nothing REALLY bad happens you will gradually to be able to do more things and not feel the intense fear and panic.  I hope you find something that helps soon. xx

Please, please go to your doctor and get the help you need, I didn't get any help much when I was first diagnosed with Agoraphobia and associated phobias (social inc) I have now been suffering for 40 odd years! it has varied in severity occasionally but when my children were small I never went on holidays/to school plays etc, my husband had to do it all while I was left at home, I now have a comfort zone of just 3 miles around my home, please don't get as bad as me, see if you can be referred to a cognitive therapy specialist or someone similar who specialises in these problems, GP's are great but they do not specialise in any one thing and medication although helpful it only helps so much, I was on anti depressants for 15 years! Not good.

    Good luck.

Hi guest im a male of 56 & suffered with ptsd;depression;violent outbursts/thoughts all kinds of anxiety & still do; im currently on quetiapine 50mg daily for GAD which i dispute . I too have great difficulty in going out even to the local shop i pace up n down sometimes for hours & what gets me out is simply anger! I have to get angry to go out the door . I think i understand your probs as i was married with 2 children ..... how did i do it ... well with difficulty tbh i simply looked at my kids & thought this is not about me this is for you im not saying it was easy for me ....but.... the more you do something the more you get used to it the more relaxed youll become the prob with anxiety is making that initial move whatever it is? If & for us it is a big IF you can get over the start line ie the door it usaually improves our wellbeing ... note this is not an answer but more of a way of dealing with it . I like i say still have probs finding a way is most importent ... tho not always succsessful we have to acknowlege our difficulties & equally our successes not sure this helps ?
