Subclinical overactive thyroid management.

I've been dealing with my subclinical overactive thyroid for 6 years, First 3 years was researching, Dealing with not so knowledgeable Endo and GPs and at a time felt like I was living in a personal hell. I discovered on here a discussion on Acetyl L Carnitine which changed my life and i could come of carbimazole which is a nasty medication in my experience and doesn't solve the problem. the ALC was amazing and helped me heal and also I got on Estrogen therapy. I had a scan at the beginning which showed nodules on my thyroid and now going to push for another scan.

No antibodies.

ALC is so good that I packed on weight and went from a size UK 6 to 12 over 4 years.

I get blood tests done and my TSH is still suppressed at 0.08 mu/L and I get my free T4 at 12.4 pmol/L and free T3 is 5.64 pmol/L.

I was also shown to have osteopenia 6 years ago and getting a Dexa scan in a few months, Hoping the estrogen therapy and Carnitine use have helped.

what annoys me is I have never got a straight answer as to why my TSH is suppressed. I do feel anxious that I will have a overactive episode again, Stress and low estrogen seem to play a role.

would love to hear from others and Experiences from those that have been able to control their overactive thyroid.

what I've learnt is that ALC is excellent at blocking thyroid hormones flooding the body and receptors. Estrogen in women helps to be a antagonist to thyroid hormones and thus serum sex binding globulin levels is a important indicator of how high thyroid hormones are in the body. At my worst my SHBG was 114 mnol/L and when feeling great and balanced its now 54 nmol/l.

I was told by my Endo that a overactive thyroid does not interfere with other sex hormones which is not true. Thyroid hormones and Estrogen have an affected both in my case. when my thyroid was at its worst I was getting menopausal symptoms due to high SHBG and low estrogen or blocked availability. When I visited Professor studd a menopause specialist he helped me to restore my Estrogen and the ALC helped to get estrogen available and I believe Thyroxine can block estrogen receptors with an overactive thyroid.

I still get mild overactive symptoms the first week before my period, Hot and having to strip off, Feeling more anxious, Can't sleep, restlessness. As I'm on Estrogen I don't get severe PMDD which when bad with my overactive thyroid I was getting severe emotional upset and suicidal.

it's a constant battle to balance things but it's taught me so much about my hormones and to pick up on changes. I came off the Carnitine for a few months due to weight gain because it works so well and I will go back to 600mg a day now. I was on 1200mg to start with half a carbimazole in the beginning and was amazed how in just a month I was feeling amazing, So much that the last 4 years I have controlled symptoms with just ALC.

I'm thankful for finding on here years ago about ACL.
