Subtalar fusion and complete posterior tibial tendon resection

Has anyone here ever heard of a doctor completely removing a posterior tibial tendon ? When you research posterior tibial tendon , it says it’s one of the most important tendon in the leg/foot? Basically after he removes this tendon , im going to loose one of my leg muscles . The Doctor will be performing a subtalar fusion (not a full ankle fusion) as well as comepletly resecting my posterior tibial tendon. I’ve never heard of removing the tendon , I’ve only heard of repairing or replacing it . I’m booked for surgery at the end of August .

I’m only 27, so a fusion is already odd since they’re normally only done on older people . But I was crushed at work by a 8 thousand pound door . This will be my 4th surgery .

Lee, you have age on your side!!! I'm now a 49 yr old and at the end of April I had my 4th surgery fusion and they took part of my hip bone and it seems to be finally starting to heal. After my 2nd surgery I had a severed tendon that was not addressed in my 1st surgery. I can tell you that I was able to walk ( always swelled) for a year and a half with the severed tendon. I'm sure your surgeon wouldn't take it out if it wasn't necessary. I wish you much luck!!!!

I have never heard of this. If you are concerned, you should definitely get a second opinion as soon as possible.
