Success on Citalopram😁

I just wanted to feed back to you all how wonderful I am feeling week12 on citalopram 20 mg
This is my second time on this drug since 2013. With hindsight I should never really have come off it but stayed at a very low dose .
I spent hours..again ...researching the internet in the early stages. This time it took 6 weeks until I started to feel better. It had taken only 2 the first time
Yes I had all the side effects and felt much much worse whilst my brain waited to rewire itself in those initial weeks
It may not be the drug for everyone but it's worked wonders for me
So I just wanted to comfort and give empathy to those of you out there who are still on their journey
My path is now much straighter
Good luck all

Mornings are more rubbish aren't they
I learnt at CBT to get up do things even sit and distract myself watching Netflix in those dark few starter weeks
I am still good
Keep at it it
You will get there I promise

Hi Shane. Wow 14 weeks?? And your still on 20mg. Has your gp not suggested you increase to 40mgs? I found 20mgs didn't work for me, only 40mgs. Once I was totally better for over 6 months he then reduced it to 20mgs. Which I was on for years. I don't know if you remember me saying that my citalopram had stopped working so I've been out onto duloxetine. Well I did 2 weeks on 30mgs and as I was still anxious and low mood he increased it to 60mgs. I've done 19 days on the 60mgs and what a difference. No anxiety and sleeping and eating well. And my mood has greatly improved. I'm up and out and about now and going back to work in 2 weeks. I definatley think 40mgs would be better. Are you taking anything else to help with the anxiety? I had diazepam for a short while which helped x x you will get there. Are you managing to get out and about?

Hi Angie, I work and have not taken any time off thru out this ordeal. However it has been difficult...actually pretty much hell. My doc did suggest an increase or even trying a different ssri but I am so afraid of starting all over with side effects with no guarantee that something new or an increase will make a difference. It is bearable but unpleasant now. I am just hoping that an improvement is coming soon. Interesting that for some they get relief at 8 weeks or so while for others it takes months. Unfortunately I fall in the later group😣 thanks for your note I appreciate any comments, suggestions this forum has been a godsend on those horrible Days!

Hi Shane, I'm in a similair situation to you. I've been on 20 mg Citalopram for 6 mnths now and although things are so much better and I have spells when I feel back to my old self i'm not totally back to normal all the time and still feel very low at times. I have been considering upping my dose to 30 mg but also scared about the side-effects coming back, even if if is for a couple of weeks, it's hard to deal with when you have to get on with your life. I'm managing now so don't want to rock the boat. Maybe if you have some time booked off work you could up to 30 mg, that's what i'm planning in the next few couple of weeks but whether I will or not I don't know.
Have you been up and down or just down all the time? Also have you improved since before you starting taking them?
It's hard having to wait so long for results but these things do take time and I think the worse you were before taking the medication and the longer you were ill the longer it takes to get better.

Hi Anna
Upping the dose isn't always the answer
It also depends on how old you are Re dosage
And yes some of the side effects will creep back in as such is the nature of the beast
I did NHS CBT group counselling months before I went back on Cit in jan
It did help but obviously wasn't enough!
But what I learnt there about helpingmyself being mindful etc etc stood me in good stead to use whenever I feel challenged or worrisome
Coming down from day 30/40 to 20 also had its issues....
