Success on Citalopram😁

I just wanted to feed back to you all how wonderful I am feeling week12 on citalopram 20 mg
This is my second time on this drug since 2013. With hindsight I should never really have come off it but stayed at a very low dose .
I spent hours..again ...researching the internet in the early stages. This time it took 6 weeks until I started to feel better. It had taken only 2 the first time
Yes I had all the side effects and felt much much worse whilst my brain waited to rewire itself in those initial weeks
It may not be the drug for everyone but it's worked wonders for me
So I just wanted to comfort and give empathy to those of you out there who are still on their journey
My path is now much straighter
Good luck all

It's good to hear a positive story. I was on citalopram for years and was mainly fine, so I reduced them due to hunger issues. About a month ago I crashed badly, I have been back on them for a few weeks (just over 2 weeks at 20mg). I felt better last week, back at work, almost normal. Feel worse again this week, depressed and feel like part of my personality is missing

Looks like we're at similar stages. Hope we both start to feel better soon. It feels like an age doesn't it xx

You will get there. Exactly what I felt ..where had I gone?
I am back now!
look back in the posts both you and Louise....I think it was an Anna that posted why you feel worse before better. It's to do with the rewiring of the brain. It was excellent post
you need to be very careful on reduction. I took a year to reduce my 20mg to 1.25 . Back in 2013
You have to be very very slow or you will crash
I can always eat 😉But I worry about the weight gain which for some people is horrific! I haven't a major problem there but I am at a gym class every day but I do notice that I sneak off for a little snack of cheese and crackers late at night. It's a porky well being feeling as well though!
When u go back up on the dose you will feel worse as the cycle starts all over again
i am on 20 mg too

Yes I saw that. It's just dissapointing as I began to feel ok last week but feel rubbish again, was crying last night. But I did have a stressful day on Monday. I just hope I don't need to up the dose as I worry about the hunger coming back.

Hi, I'm on 20mg, was on 10mg for 10 days. Side effects were a bit of diarrhea and dry mouth. Increased anxiety and depression. Physical side effects have gone now but I'm ot feeling great this week.

How are you feeling?
I'm quite up and down at the moment. Sometimes I can feel completely normal again and then I can feel quite low and weepy or just not myself. Hoping this is normal and will eventually iron out.

Hey Nicola,
I just registered to let you know that I'm also in the same boat as you, I'm on day 13 of 10mg so far, originally prescribed 20mg but side effects were brutal so I reduced my dose then told my GP - the way you describe how you are feeling right now is exactly the same as me, It's completely normal - I'm reassuring myself by telling me its just a calibration period for my brain and its definetly a sign that things are improving! just think of where you've come from recently! Last week I was a complete mess and couldn't function, I wasn't sleeping and now this week I'm ocassionally feeling ok and then occassionally feeling crap. That's huge progress but when our minds are in this state we just can't realise it. Have faith that these things will iron out, this is my second time on Citalopram and they definitly ironed out the first time so why wouldn't they this time? staying optimistic is tough but lean on those around you for reassurance when times are tough, keep going and keep busy!

Hi Elliot
Thanks so much for your encouraging words. It is so hard to remember when you are feeling bad. At each stage of improvement I feel like 'this is going to be it forever' and I never learn but I need to acknowledge that it is improvement. I have been writing a journal to help me look back and see how bad I was.
I feel fine now, I usually feel fine from lunchtime but 'off' in the mornings.

I know exactly what you mean - I find it so hard to figure out I've improved even though from an outside perspective the improvement is huge. When do you take your citalopram? I find that the initial 8 hours after I take it I feel wierd, and then my mood lifts after (not sure if its psychological though!)

I take it at night, which is what I did the last time I was on it. It was making me very sleepy when I first started and I don't have any problems sleeping on it.

When you up or down a dose your body will need to adjust again. Stay on the 20 mg. be kind to yourself and go with it .
