I have now been on 10mg Citalopram for 2 weeks, have to higher the dose to 20mg at the weekend, at the moment I am not feeling too good, hightened anxiety which the GP told me to expect, only sleeping a couple of hours a night and tummy upsets, I would love to hear other people's experiences with this drug as I am not sure whether to pack it in or carry on, thank you.

Hi everyone, i am new to this. I have really bad health anxiety and have been putting off taking tablets for about A year, but today i have gone for it and started on 5mg of cit. Im worried that im gonna feel terrible. Does everyone get side effects? Is it all going to be worth it? Im at a bit of a loose end x

      Hi Becky!

Not everyone gets side effects but it seems most do. I got heightened anxiety, couldn't sleep, nausea and abdominal pain. Others have had other side effects. I stopped taking the meds because they were also making it hard to concentrate and I'm in my last semester of nursing school so I couldn't continue but plan to restart when I'm done. I also have health anxiety along with agoraphobia so from experience, when you get a side effect just remember it's the medication! Nothing had is happening to you! Your body is getting used to something new and although it might feel unpleasant, it will go away. I'm saying this because I've gotten really panicky feeling some of the side effects when I really shouldn't have. As soon as I started telling myself it was just the medication and nothing else I felt a bit better. Keep in touch if you need anything!

Hi Katrina I know it's been a long time since this post but I have had a traumatic few years and it al started with nursing school. I am in my last semester now for the second time my children's father passed away unexpectedly last year when I was in fourth semester had to take a leave of absence. Long story short I started school and I got hit with the first panic attacks and deepest depression I've ever felt. I am sticking with the cit but have also been prescribed Ativan as needed. Scared to take it but feel like that's the only way I can make it through 8 more weeks. So tired of feeling this way and know when school is over that will be a big relief and pressure off of me but 8 weeks feels like 8 years when you feel like this. How did you make it through feeling so crappy?

I'm on day 9 since starting taking 20mg a day.  The first week I had weird feelings in my head and massively heightened anxiety exarcebated by certain things going on at work but since the weekend I feel a lot better.  My anxiety has receded in to the background quite a bit and I can concentrate on things but today I felt quite spaced out and tired although I could still concentrate my body feels heavy again. hopefully this will pass soon.

Wondering if cmc46 is still taking the Celexa?

I began taking it on March 2nd (23 days ago) and it kicked in March 13th. I am ridiculously happy and do not stress about ANYTHING . After 7 years of depression (quit Efexor due to no insurance) and not realizing how much anxiety I had this is a total Godsend. I have two moods Happy and Sleepy!

I take it at 7 pm and sleep like a baby for 8 solid hours. My current living situation is so stressful and now everything just rolls off my back.

I cannot say enough good things about it and NO BRAIN ZAPS LIKE other meds. Should be in the water system smile

Hi Kathy, No I am not taking the citalopram any more, I stopped them over a year ago, but they certainly did the trick when I needed them, I was on them for about 3 years altogether. I am glad they are working so well for you.

I know the original post was over a year old. I hope you were able to find that celexa helped you. I started 10mg of celexa on February 18th.. so It's been 41 days for me. I had awful symptoms in the beginning...hightened anxiety, only sleeping a few hours each night, headaches, no appetite.. but after the first 2 weeks I felt so much better. It took the full 4 weeks for me to feel back to myself, but now each day is better and better. Please for everyone who is reading this, give the meds time to work. It gets worse before it gets better. I felt like I was going to be stuck that way forever (not eating, not wanting to do ANYTHING that I enjoyed doing before). But there is a light at the end of it! And I hope everyone finds it!

Hi Stephanie. I was just wondering how you are getting. I'm on week 4 and two days and still struggling. I started on 10mg for first week and then to 20mg. I still have rushes of anxiety and struggling to feel like there is any improvement. I just would love a glimmer of hope that the tablets are doing so.ething instead of the constant worry that they aren't going to work...any advice?

HI I am new to this forum and very thankful to have found it! After sudden anxiety / panic attacks about 4 months ago my doctor prescribed Citalopram. 6 days at 10ml now on 20 ml for a week. All new for me.. what can I expect in the weeks to come? I notice mornings are rough for me lots of anxiety and tired all of the time. Any words of help and support greatly appreciated. Thx Shane

Hi Claire I am at nearly 13 weeks. Doing okay now but has been a rough road. Worst of it was pretty severe morning anxiety that is starting to settle but still there somewhat. Ringing ears are annoying so hoping that resolves. Up and down days. Perhaps a 50% improvement from day 1. Hoping it continues to get better.

      How are you? Shane

      Hi Shane

I'm ok..im only getting to week 5. I had been feeling okish but I've started feeling very lightheaded the last couple of days and not sure if it's a side effect or something was dealing with before going on the medication. I'm hoping side effect.

Last night was best sleep I've managed to have since starting medication and morning dare I say was a little easier but just not feeling I'm quite there yet..like you 50% maybe. Painful how long it takes for them to kick in. Claire

Hi, I remember well the period of feeling light headed. Lasted about a week. I agree crazy how long it takes to kick in. Seems fast for some but that is not my experience. I still have some weirdness in the morning. Low level of anxiety and just sort of feel off. Worst for me is tinitus - Ringing ears. Very annoying. Hope it resolves.

Good luck to you in the coming weeks. Keep me posted!
