I have now been on 10mg Citalopram for 2 weeks, have to higher the dose to 20mg at the weekend, at the moment I am not feeling too good, hightened anxiety which the GP told me to expect, only sleeping a couple of hours a night and tummy upsets, I would love to hear other people's experiences with this drug as I am not sure whether to pack it in or carry on, thank you.

Happy to know that for many of you here you are feeling better. I have a question to ask: has anyone waited more than 8 weeks for Celexa 40 mg to take effect. I have been on it for 8 weeks now and have not felt any significant change, esp waking up feeling anxious and depressed in the mornings. I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thank you and a Happy New Year to everyone!

I am now starting my 5th week on 20mg, was on 10mg for 3 weeks before and can't say I am feeling much better, some of the weird feelings have gone but the morning anxiety is terrible, I can't remember having this first time round which was 2 years ago, i'm sure I started to feel better after about 6 weeks, I'm not sure how I count the weeks, is from the start or from when I stated to take 20mg,, hopefully another 4 weeks and I should be feeling something better if it is going to work this time round, as I am 67 I don't think I can go above 20mg.

Is Celexa the same as citrolpam or another type of antidepressant. 60 mg would be a lot
Ask your doctor about that difference in name , does it say Celexa on the box ?
30 mg was great for me
Hang in there

Yes know how you feel , I went to 30 mg about 7 week stage and still had real bad anxiety
Still crying , vomiting with anxiety still, wouldn't get out of bed, didn't want to do or see
Anyone or anything then slowly it kicked in . Now about 13 weeks and feel my old self so going
Back down to 20 mg. for a few months then back to 10 mg later in year and will stay on that for a while to make sure the wheels don't fall off again
I am 61 , so hang in there as it will work , believe me

So I started taking citalopram back in June and my what a journey it was! Started on 10mg then 20mg after about a month, 2 months in I didn't feel a difference, the mornings were awful I couldn't face going out incase I was sick in public! So I moved up to 40 mg and I've been on that for almost 5 months now. What a difference it made, not right away though, after about 6 weeks on 40mg the mornings went back to normal. The intrusive thoughts vanished! The anxiety is ALWAYS in the back of my mind, if I'm out of my comfort zone and I'm feeling fine I'm constantly waiting for it to happen, it's as if I'm not allowed to feel 'normal' but let me tell you, if you're new to cit, DO NOT GIVE UP!! Please please stick with it. In my previous post you can read about how terrible the first few weeks were with the constant nausea, lack of sleep and all sorts of weird stuff but I wouldn't give up, I had to change my way of thinking in that I need these pills because they will help me to eventually not need them, I did think it was creeping back so my GP put me on beta blockers they are a god send. They eliminate all of the physical symptoms, so if I'm going to go somewhere I might panic, I have one and it's magical. I asked my GP if I could come off the cit in the new year sometime and she advised that it's not a good idea until at least a year. So no matter how fine you think you are, this anxiety takes a lot longer to go away than it did to get here...
Anyone that is at the end of their tether with the cit. have some time off, quit your job if you have to, give yourself the time you need to build up your strength again because you're not alone in this and if you're having therapy like I am it's a great thing to have behind you! 8 months into this anxiety experience and I feel like I've been through every single possibility there is of having a panic attack.
You're doing great all. Stick with it
xx

I am 50% better than I was when they first started that’s because of all these posts and cbt and citlopram! I am on 10mg for 3 weeks and about to go to 20mg I’m 25 and very bubbly and out going and taking these medicine purlet for the intrusive thoughts and awful anxiety that comes closely behind it!
How long did it take you to stop having these thoughts? I’m desperately trying not to let them bother me and carry on being the person I used to be! Even though I feel like ocd has the power to make you feel like you shouldn’t enjoy life!
( I did have a pretty awful year with a loss of a baby and a break up) my therapist said these intrusive thoughts could come as a distraction to what’s actually been going on in my life!
Good luck all x

Yes Celexa is also citalopram and I'm on 40 mg. I'm on my 12th week and the morning anxieties are still there and the general feeling of isolation and loneliness. Still hard to get up from bed unless I have to. But once I do get up, then things start to feel better. I also augment my medication with Ambien to sleep at night and clonozepam for anxiety. I'm not really sure whether I have been helped by citalopram because I still don't feel I'm back to my old self, after being on 40 mg. for almost 12 weeks now. I am wondering, can it take that long?

When I couldn't sleep I had lavender oil in my bath at night which helped a lot
I don't know much about clonozepam but maybe taking them at different times could help?

My doctor told me to take 20 mg at night and 20 mg in the morning, always with some food. I've stopped feeling the nausea after several weeks, and I'm already on my 12th week. The only thing that I still feel is the anxiety and sadness in the mornings. And yes, once I get up from bed, then I don't feel so bad, with only occasional anxieties that are either work-related or grief from my break-up. I take clonozepam almost everyday, at 1/4 or 1/2 the tablet to tide me over. When I take them in the morning it makes me more sleepy so I usually just take at most a quarter of the pill, and take another quarter during the day if I feel I need it.
Thanks for your message! My main concern is that the anti-depressant celexa seems to have not really taken my depression away so I"m going to talk to my doctor about it on Tuesday.
Best,
DR
