Hello

I wanted to share my success story with you.

I am 30 years old and suffer from menstrual migraines since I was a teenager but bad migraines started when I was about 25 and I have recently resolved them. They were very debilitating - I would get them at the time I got my period and also mid cycle. I also had a very short cycle of about 21 days. The migraines lasted for about 2-3 days each and we’re so debilitating I had to stay in bed. All this meant every 1-2 weeks I spent 2-3 days in bed (or trying to chug through life on insane painkillers which didn’t even take the edge off half the time). I tried so many different types of medication, the pill, acupuncture etc etc all wth no success. I tried a number of triptans all with no success because I got terrible side effects.  I began to feel very down and like I would never be healthy. I was also often anxious about getting a migraine which really impacted my life. It all changed with a few things. Firstly, I started taking high strength organic vitex (swisse brand - no other brand worked - 1500mg per day) plus high dose magnesium each day. The vitex worked for me in lengthening my cycle to 27 days and meant I was only getting migraine around my period time and not in the middle of the cycle. However a debilitating migraine once every month was still not good.

The second thing that happened is I moved to a city with a specialist migraine clinic. After hearing my story about previous tries with medication I was given new prescriptions. Firstly, I take a high dose of naproxen (500mg twice a day) the few days before my period and the first few days of my period, and this has worked to significantly reduce the occurrence of migraines. Secondly, if I do get a migraine, now I take frovatriptan which works to get rid of the migraine within a couple of hours with no side effects for me. I know rarely get migraines but when I do the frovatriptan works and I am not debilitated in bed.

I guess my message is don’t give up hope. Just keep trying different things until something works. And go to a specialist migraine clinic if you are able to!

Thank you so much for sharing this story.  I've never known anyone to suffer migraines the was as I do....yours are identical to me! I get them clockwork at ovulation, 5 days before period, then during then after.....they last 2-3 days and are debilitating.  I'm now on 2 preventatives daily, and I take trio tan and anti suck to get me through them.  Luckily they work for me but I'm still very ill with them, I started a keto/ pales diet 6 months ago which is gotten rid of the headaches in between but these hormone migraines are relentless.  I'm so excited to try what you've been doing. I'll try pretty much anything! I too have done years and years of acupuncture, mindfulness, herbs etc and no success yet. All menstrual migraine success stories majorly welcomed here! I started naproxen 500 too but haven't used them like that yet so I'll try now! Such a great story, well done and thank you for giving some hope xx

I used to take naproxen but found the side effects too difficult. My headaches became more frequent. I just upped from 200 mg to 300 mg of chelated magnesium (un chelated really does a number on my stomach). No migraines or headaches for two days. I usually get at least one headache a day and maybe 1 or 2 of those are migranes.
