Successful Catheter Ablation

Hello all,

I have suffered with SVT most of my life and was just recently diagnosed. I had my catheter ablation yesterday and am happy to announce that it was a successful procedure. My dr was able to cauterize the area that was causing my palpitations and after 2-4 weeks of recovery, I should not experience anymore palps!

The ablation was about 2.5 hours long. While in the OR, I could feel my heart racing when my dr recreated my palpitations and felt a little "tugging" which I assumed was the catheter. But other than that, it was not too uncomfortable. After she found the route to cauterize, they put me under and I don't remember anything else about the procedure.

If you are considering catheter ablation, I highly suggest it! It is a life changer for sure! I can't wait to see how I feel in the next few weeks.

So pleased to hear that. I'm due to have my ablation on the 9th August. Do you know why they put you completely under? Is that just part of the procedure?

They put me under when they found the part of my heart that they had to cauterize. That way I wouldn't feel any discomfort. Good luck on your upcoming procedure!

I'm glad to hear ablation worked for you and that you are doing well! I meeting with my doctor tomorrow to discuss my options. I was just diagnosed with SVT. I'm glad to finally have a name for what is wrong with me. The doctor I saw before thought I was having panic attacks! But that did not seem to make sense to me since I have not been under any extreme stress lately. I just wonder what has caused this? I am an avid runner and I've never had any health problems. I figured with all of my working out, I would have a very strong heart! It is such a shock!

Hi, I think you might find that, like me, most folks with SVT had otherwise very healthy hearts. Its just a minor electrical blip that puts everything else out of sync.

My doctor said I was born with SVT. It just took 35 years to be diagnosed! I went to 2 other cardiologists who had me wear a Holter monitor for 2 days and were never able to catch a palpitation. Finally I found a doctor who specialized in the electrical and rhythm of the heart and wore the monitor for 30 days. She knew right away that I had SVT.

When having a palpitation, it would feel like a panic attack. They are so scary. Now knowing that I will never have one again, my anxiety has gone way down.

I highly suggest getting the ablation done. It has changed my life! Good luck!

I'm so glad to hear the ablation was successful. I was diagnosed with SVT several weeks ago and am scheduled to have an ablation in three weeks. I am pretty miserable on flecainide in meanwhile and still having lots of palpitations. How was teh recovery from the surgery? How long did it take to get back to normal? Have you had palpitations since then?

I had a lot of discomfort in my groin area where they inserted the catheters. Mainly on my left side. The pain lasted for a week or so. I haven't had any palpitations since my ablation but I still have flutters now and then. That is common for a few weeks after the procedure. I'm not quite back to normal yet, but I figure my heart is still healing so I have to give it time. Good luck with your upcoming ablation. I'm so glad I had mine.
