Sudden hearing loss 18th of Jan, scan tomorrow, operation Monday?

Hello everyone.

Any help on my situation will be appreciated as I have issues communicating with the local doctors.

The evening of the 18th I had a sudden hearing loss while on a trip.

I came back to Berlin, Germany and today the 20th of January I was proposed to undergo an operation to check my inner hear.

I said I wanted a scan first and now they will try to scan me tomorrow.

What do you recommend, was it a good idea to ask for a scan (the called it MIT here) first?

Is the operation to check my inner ear an invasive, dangerous one?

Just seen this message, how did it go? There must have been a name for the surgery you had? Have things improved?

      Actually it's very interesting:

after searching a lot on the web there was NOTHING related to surgery.

Then I found a website saying some institutes proposed surgery but surgery was NOT the accepted way to cope with SHL.

Those institutes were in Germany, and so was I.

Hospitals get money for surgeries. so this *might* have been the case :S.

      I refused the surgery.

Narrow escape I'd say. Have things improved at all? Hope so,

Chances are "nothing too bad" would have happened, "just" an unneccessary operation (with full anesthesia).

Yes, things have improved a bit -and possibly the docs might have even said it was the surgery that improved it-, and hopefully some people in the same situation will read it before they agree to a surgery.
