Sudden irregular periods

OK so I'm 30 years old with a 7 year old my periods were always roughly every 25-29 days up until the 6th December 2018 where I went 15 days since my last period, I thought it was a blip so I waited only to be greeted by mother nature again on the 21st December 2018 I went to see my doctor who didn't seem overly concerned as I had no other symptoms and only had a smear test done Dec 2017 which all came back normal he told me to wait and see what happens next, 4th Jan 2019 I started my period again does anyone know what this could possibly be it's playing havoc with my anxiety I have made an appointment for the docs 22nd Jan 2019 any advice would be appreciated also this one is on its 6th day now I usually stop at 5 thank you so much
