sudden onset of ulcerative colitis?

I have had diarrhea 5-6 times a day for over 6 months. I have lost over 25% of my body weight. The specialist said I had ulcerative colitis, but I had a clear colonoscopy 6 months prior to onset. I was in a hotel hot tub in February that had not been cleaned out for the year. I know that many germs are resistant to chlorine. The specialist didn't have a clue, so my husband looked up water-born parasites. Two were tested, but still no success. No matter what I eat, the result is always the same. Any help would greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Michele L.

Michele, sorry to hear you're going through this. That sounds terrible. I have been down that road before and it's miserable. I will say that (according to my GI, not talking out of my rear end here) UC and Crohn's both go in and out of remission on their own in your body. So you could have had a normal colonoscopy 6 months ago, but suddenly start showing drastic symptoms such as the ones you're experiencing. I find that soup, toast and a steady pour of peptobismol helps a bit. In the meantime, keep following up with your doctor for treatment as UC can continue to get worse if you can imagine that. Best of luck to you. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for your concern. I have never heard of UC that started at 60 years of age. I am going to a new GI next week, and hope they will run a full screen on parasites. Most cannot be detected in a single test. I sent you a more involved text, but I'm not sue it went through. Again, thanks for caring.
Sincerely,

It does seem peculiar, but I'm sure it's possible. And you're welcome. It's nice to know people care and can support each other even if we're total strangers. Let us know what ends up happening. Take care.
