Sudden pain in groin 6 weeks after THR
Posted , 5 users are following.
After a steady improvement since my THR 6 weeks ago. I suddenly seem to have a pain in the groin again. If I use my sticks (which I had just recently discarded around the house) then the pain is much alleviated. However, walking without the stick is very painful. I understand that if this goes on (day 2 now) then I will have to see a medical professional. But just wondering if anyone else has had this?

how are you doing?
Groin pain will come and go for a while during the healing process after hip relacement surgery - your body is adjusting to the new hip and learning how to walk again - finding balance and keeping her balance is still challenging and without using a cane even more so -
you mention that it is very painful to walk without a stick, so please keep using it - some of us need to use them longer than others and that is okay ... really is ..
do you have physical therapy? most of the times they will be able to assess range of movement of your leg and perhaps give you some stretching exercises or a massage -
of course, if the pain is sharp or when you are unable to put weight on your leg, make an appointment to see your surgeon ...
please let us know how you are getting on, okay ?
big warm hug

hi linda,
also be aware of your posture - I know that I don't always stand or sit up straight - sleeping on my side (fetal position) etc... many things that contribute to shorten that big muscle there ...
butt clenches help - just squeeze them buns and hold it - do them everywhere and any time ----

Dear Renee,
I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier to your very kind response. I suppose I am doing okay in general but the recovery went backwards at 6 weeks (as above) and that alarmed me. The consultant has said that there is nothing wrong internally (x-rays taken last week and all good) but he (and physiotherapist ) say I pulled a muscle. So, back I go to sticks and yes, the pain is very slowly getting better but it is taking a while. I have to be patient and realise we all heal at different times and rates and a setback does not mean it has all gone wrong. Interestingly, the pulled muscle happened at same time as I started turning over in bed - this may be a co-incidence. Thanks again for your kind words

I am happy to read that you feel better - it is a journey, and a roller coaster ride at times ...

Hi Monica, I'm now 7 weeks post THR and am trying to ditch my crutches. I'd been on one crutch for a while but overdid it last weekend at a family wedding by walking around without one. I ended up with unpleasant groin pain and exhaustion. Went back to 2 crutches and painkillers for 24 hours and am now using a single walking stick around the house. Our bodies certainly tell us when we've done too much. Just be careful - like I wasn't(!). I've learnt a lesson.
