Sudden Pain in the groin and buttock

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi guys, don't know whether I should be concerned, so I'm turning to my "specialists".

This evening I became aware of throbbing pain in my replaced hip. Shoots through to the upper buttock. It's not constant, more like in waves. I do not have a temperature.

Should I be concerned or should I just take some pain pills and lie still, or do I head to the hospital's emergency unit?

5 weeks post anterior bilateral hip replacement with no such pain up to this evening. Should I be concerned?

5 weeks also anterior RTHR really is major surgery. Saw surgeon last week 4 week check, shooting pain nerve not cut but pushed aside healing. Occ numbers and pain all normal. Remember still major surgery.

I just don't understand how one hip being absolutely normal and the other hip playing up so can be normal after a bilateral??

Have you been doing more exercise lately? Anything different from usual? Can you weight bear on that leg? Depending on the severity of the pain, I would probably rest and ice and see how it feels tomorrow. But, of course, whether you go to ER or not depends on your level of concern.

This is the leg I've never been able to put weight on since 10 days after my bilateral.

    Hi

I had groin and buttock pain. In fact I still do and I'm 12 weeks post op.was told this was normal. I would just rest and take pain killers. If it gets any worse then maybe seek advice x

    Dear Annie,

Wow, bilateral THR  weeks post-op ....  are you 100% weight bearing on both hips?

Ususally, 4-6 weeks post-op from single THR, one will feel more confident and then overdo it a bit - but our body is not in balance yet and might still need walking aid? Are you still using aids ?

which hip is it ?  one way or the other, one hip is compromising for the other to keep you balanced and moving ... it is tough , Annie ....

If it worries you and prevents you from moving or becomes very restrictive in your movements, I would contact  my surgeon --- just to be safe -

take it easy today - go slowly and gently

    big warm hug

    renee

The left leg is perfect. The right hip not so much. I was able to put weight on both legs, albeit with groin pain on the right, up to 10 days post op. Then the right leg threw its toys out the cot and and now it's madder than a snake.
