Ok so has anyone been startled/jolted wide awake after just falling asleep? If so please do explain what you feel, and is this a peri/memo thing or just maybe anxiety?? I dozed off to sleep for a nap yesterday and was jolted wide awake I was shaky somewhat disorintated very anxious jumped straight up and went and say outside until I calmed down! What the heck was that.. Scared me!!

Fell asleep a couple more times yesterday and same thing happened. Is this a new symptom? Is there anything that helps this?? Do tell please...

Also forgot to say I was extra tired/sleepy yesterday, and wondered if that had anything to do with this.

      Hi pinkcatfairy,

Well we seem to have a lot of these same awful symptoms, this one was new for me and it was startling. Did your last for a while or just kind of come and go?

Yes i had this when it all first kicked off. Its like your woken by a panic attack.. only way to describe it. Overwhelemd with crazy thoughts too and feel out of control.  As the anxiety has started to calm down so as this symptom so i would say yes its a peri thing. Scared the life out of me too when it first happened as i have never experienced it before. Ive seen it mentioned a few times on posts on here with people who are having he anxiety issues quite bad.

Like i saiddd above it has settled down now but its taken a year to do so... but no doubt at some point i will get it again .. menopause is such an upredictable thing im ruling out nothing at this point smile

      Hi littleme,

Yes it most definitely felt like I awoke to a panic attack, anxiety was pretty intense! Well hopefully this will pass soon and not hang around , I didn't even think it was possible to have anxiety/panic while asleep, but then again maybe that's why nightmares happen! Hugs!!!

Hi Gypsy014 - it is both. Itis a know symptom to have sleep disturbances during peri-m, these lead to feeling anxious and causes more disturbance in the sleep pattern. It is a terrible cycle of events. Well in my case, if I do fall asleep, I have very distorted dreams. This even makes me feel more detached from reality which leads to more anxiety. However, since I started taking Xanor SR 0.5mg, my sleep patterns have improved.
