Suddenly worse symptoms

Hi, I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Put on Asocol. Seemed to be going okay and main symptom was very loose stool 2-3 times in the morning. Dr said diet didn’t make a difference...before that I had been very careful. Anyway over the bank holiday, I ate what I wanted!! Had worst watery diarrhea Monday afternoon, evening and into Tuesday morning!! Still really bad! Have been prescribed prednisolone suppositories and I used the first one last night. Again, really bad diarrhea most of the day. So you think the food at the weekend could have caused this.... has it happened to anyone else? How long do suppositories take to work...finding all this very difficult at the moment. Seems like it seems to settle and then just gets worse!

What did you eat that you think may have triggered it? Diet won't cure it but certainly some foods will not help but it's different for everyone. I found the pred suppositories didn't help as my infection is too far up so pred pills are the only thing that works for me at the moment maybe worth asking for them if suppositories dont start working soon but would give it 3-4 days good luck!

Hi Mark, I ate bbq, salad, potatoes ice cream etc all stuff I had been avoiding. I have gone back to the bland diet I was eating previously, avoiding dairy, gluten, high fibre. I also suppose it can take time for Asocol to kick in fully! Thanks for your advice, have you had U.C. for a while?

Hi Kathy , i only got diagnosed end of Feb after a massive flare up lost 2 stone in a month and ended up in hospital for 8 days id never heard of it before. Im on Pentasa and steriods still everything i start coming off the steriods symptons start coming back so they are trying me on azathioprine which i am wary of taking as side effects can be bad and you need weekly blood tests so im holding off till i get back from holiday end of month. I think with UC it is a lot of trail and error with meds and diet everyone is different , hope you feel better soon x

Hi. Can I ask if that was your only symptom? I'm having watery diarrhea every morning like you said. I have a colonoscopy coming up. Can u ask your symptoms and the tests you had? I'm fed up. Had chronic diarrhoea since Christmas. I live on imodium now. It's taken weeks for my gastro referral to come through and that was just a letter for a colonoscopy. No seeing a consultant!

Hi sezza, my original symptoms were loose stools and passing blood. I had a colonoscopy about a month ago. The colonoscopy was carried out by a gastro dr and they told me at the time that there was inflammation and it was IBD. They then saw me at clinic a week later and started me on meds. The diarrhea I am currently having is worse than it was at the start, which is frustrating but I’m just hoping it calms down soon. Hope your colonoscopy gives you the answers you need!

How long has the diarrhoea been going on? I've only had blood tests so far and a fecal calprotectin test which was slightly high at 90.

Sorry to hear you're still suffering. Hopefully they can sort your meds out and get you on the right ones. I've not passed any blood. I have no pain. Thank you for getting back to me.

I have uc and am not taking any meds I chose not to because of all of the side effects.I just returned from a 11 day cruise I had no symptoms of the disease the whole time I eat what ever I wanted except dairy,A nurse on the cruise said it could be that I was not under any stress.(This happens every time I go on vacation).Since I returned the diarrhea stated again my friend said its probably all the bread you have eaten while on vacation so I started eating  some whole grain Italian bread and the diarrhea stopped  has anyone else experienced this ?

    Hi Kathy, I'm 1969 too!

Try this worked for me remission no meds 3 years now...peace

Get off all meds, get mesalamine enemas, try to keep it in overnight, then try to keep 2 in overnight, then 2 and one in the morning, administer enemas in bed not bathroom, put trashcan near bed for used enema, put towel down on bed just in case, put hips on 2 pillows to use gravity, extra lube is fine, yes it may be uncomfortable after administering, just lie there and relax for 30 min and any uneasy feeling will go away, go to sleep

If mesalamine enemas show symptom improvement, then don't stop just because symptoms went away and enemas aren't as easy as taking a pill...isaw symptom relief probably in 3 or less enemas but I used about 23 over 1-2 months to step on the snakes head

The following only finishes the healing, the enemas we're the only that worked enough to get the ball rolling.

    Mandator diet, no red meat

Remove what ever else you want below:

cured meats, fried foods, dairy (use almond milk) refined sugar (use honey in your coffee instead), olive oil for cooking, plant based oil for spreading

if you eat something that messes you up then now you know one of your food allergies, listen to your body

Eat soft foods, avacado, berries, eggs, fish salmon or white fishes

Reduce fiber Intake to let your system have some time to heal, her intestines want to heal but getting the scan rubbed off every day is bit good....once you are healthy you can then bring back good fibers, soluable, whole, etc..

Eat a minimum of 3 coconut milk yogurts a day found at the Joe

Drink coconut water non flavored, keep in fridge and pour over ice is the sweetest, try to shoot for a liter a day, that way when you fall short you still will be drinking some, hydration is good, you get it cheapest at the warehouse stores

Take a sip a day of inner-eco coconut water that is a LIVE probiotic, DO NOT SHAKE BOTTLE!

Do all this for a minimum of a year and keep doing what you think after that

Stop stressing about things if you can

I am 3 years in remission, and still drink 1/2 liter coconut water a day, olive oil for All Cooking! no red meat! not really any refined sugar, no cured meats, and still use inner-eco

All of this was shown to me by my maker and I am happy to pass it on

You can also use mesalamine suppositories with the enemas, the key is to hit all the inflamed/traumatized parts, but the enemas should be all you need

    Peace
