Sufferer for over 30 years

Hi

I have had this for over 30 years, it comes and goes. What causes a flare up for me is stretching like cleaning windows or lifting heavy objects like lugging the vacuum cleaner upstairs. Costochondritis can be scary but you learn to live with it. Getting anxious over it will only make it worse. Pain killers is all I take and I cut down on spicy foods if I get a flare up. Sometimes you think it's gone but then you go and scratch your side, like I just did, and the pain is excruciating. Sometimes I wonder if it ever goes away.

Take care.

hi, have had this for over 2 years now, actually it is Tietzes because I have swellings. The worst thing now is that it seems to co-operate with my stomach problems. I am a bit ironic there, i mean a flare up of Costo irritates the stomach, gastritis and IBS. After dinner it feels like a burning steel band around the rib cage and I dont know what is what, is it just costo or is it heart burn or both. That leads me to start pressing the ribs and then I can feel that they hurt and are tender. I cannot take any pain killers at all due to my stomach. It is always better in the morning, both the stomach and the costo. Just the fearsome thought of them acting up again leads to an attac, so its a never ending story. I do have health anxiety.

      Hi,

You're right, costochondritis and Gerd seem to go hand in hand. I get gastric acid reflux so I take gaviscon, it does help. I don't wear bras anymore, I used to wear underwired bras but now I wear the soft cropped top ones and they are much better. It's a vicious circle, if I get anxious I get Gerd and that aggravates the costochondritis.

      Best wishes
