Suffering with chronic groin pain after anterior THR

Posted , 4 users are following.

My newest ortho seems to know a lot about physiology which other doctors did not surprisingly enough but he did say he thinks it's my adductors tendons not the pessoa standing that is giving me all the problems so I'm going to physical therapy twice a week heavy duty physical therapy and I'll be back in his office next Monday for a groin cortisone shot. Has anybody had adductor problems?

Good luck! How long have you had groin pain?

Did you have a hip replacement?

If so when did your groin pain start?

Hi Jodi, the groin pain started about 3 weeks after anterior TRHR....but thinking back i think this was part of the pain that drs said I needed hip replacement....now i am questioning whether i needed hip replacement or what i needed was to get this problem solved.

its adductor tendonitis which is very painful!! walking , standing makes it worse....so it just hurts all the time

thank you for your comments :-)

Morning Patientzero007!  I too had groin pain after my hip surgeries.  My first rhr was anterior and 3 weeks later I’m having a total hip revision due to a dislocation.  I found that icing was beneficial to the groin area to help with pain.  Also heat to help relax the tendons.  And massaging the inside of the thigh and around the top of thigh and groin.  It felt at times like I had a tight band around the top of the thigh.  It lasted a good long time but it finally went away.   I’m 14 months out from revision. What kind of exercises are you doing?   Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and healing.  Hugs 🤗Linda.

I go to PT 2 times week....this is not routine groin pain so ice and heat won't help at this point,,,,its 8 months out....thank you for thinking of me!! My adductor tendon is knotted and pt is working to stretch it out...when i walk it feels like its ripping apart...

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts!!! I have a new dr who while he has a terrible personality may actually care about the patient...

I feel the adductor was messed up during anterior hip replacement...They do it so fast now without paying a lot of attention to individual tendons.

how on earth did you get a dislocation??

      Take care

Oh ok.  Yea I think we have two different issues!  I always felt like a tight band was around the top of thigh.  I know my adductor was nerdy tight.  Dr gave me back my length in that leg so stretched everything in thigh!!  To this day I’m not sure how I dislocated or exactly when.   I was walking and exercising on that dislocated hip!!   Think that’s why I had to have revision. 😞😩😖.  Hugs 🤗 Linda

      nerdy tight is right...lol

mine is so tight, it very hard to take big steps...we will see what happens...i honestly think it would be easier to get a revision...i can't stop but think the hip is to big for me, but the drs say its right size...Monday week i get a cortisone shot in groin so i am hoping that will take care of it.  thank you!!

It has been 71/2 months since my anterior total hip replacement and I haven’t had much since sin relief. I have abductor pain in my groin. That has been from the beginning. And I found out about 2 months ago that it was severe tendinitis. And recently I was told I have bursitis also, and I’ve had shots in my upper thigh near the groin. And I’ve had cortisone shots in my hip. To no avail I still have pain and I don’t know what to do. I don’t think this was even worth it. I got rid of hip pain for different pains. I’m seriously fed up.

Im so sorry you are going thru this...my anterior hip replacement was the worst thing i could have ever done...1 year later i just had a psoas tendon release which has a long recovery period and the tendon is not fully functioning for 2 months...many patients take longer..This was the only option available to me as i was disabled from pain after hip replacement and still dont know if it will resolve all pain issues...please read under psoas release...hope this helped.

Update: the dr i had was a total kook! Nothing was wrong with abductors. It was psoas the whole time, most orthopedic surgeons dont have a clue...find a dr who specializes in arthroscopic hip surgery or you'll be getting useless cortisone shots and never get better

I made another appointment with my Ortho on Friday and my husband and I will confront him with my issues and my research to try to resolve my pain. I’m praying for your recovery and praying for my own also.
