Hi everyone.

I'm new to this, as I've been diagnosed with HS just a couple of days ago, although I have been having symptoms for one year and a half now (that's how long it took to have a diagnose).

I apologise if I repeat the same questions. I need to hear the answers.

First of all, I'm 40 tomorrow. Isn't this an unusual age to start developing HS?

Secondly, I have just finished one antibiotics cycle (Tetracycline) of 2 months, which has had no effect, and I've now been prescribed Trimethoprim (200mg, BD). I've taken Trimethoprim for 2 days now and feel sleepy and weak. Anybody here has taken this antibiotic?

I'm a bit worried about the prescribed dose, which is doubled in respect to what is reported in the information leaflet.

Do antibiotics work? What they are for? Are they just for curing abscesses or do they also help with the remission of them?

Thanks -

    Hi

It took nearly 4years for my diagnosis. In my experience antibiotics didnt work and just made me feel worse but I have heard that for some people they work. I always find when I have an outbreak nothing works apart from surgery but everyone is different.

When I first got diagnosed I went to a charity to BA-HS and sent them an email with my story. The founder wrote back to me and sent me loads of info and even a specialist's name.

The email is enquiries@hstrust.org they are great to help and give information to help.

Emis Moderator comment: I changed the email address as the site has changed details - see http://www.hstrust.org/

Hiya, im almost 40 aswell and had this for many years, and have taken more antibiotics than boots the chemist have in their store! NONE of them have worked!! Its as if doctors dont think it is serious, and unless you suffer from it you have no idea how it is. I had to have an emergency op last night as one of the lumps had grown so big, they are now talking about Bottox injections, I would advise you to enquire about this, and keep on pushing for something to be done! I hope you get some help very soon xkx

Im going for skin graft surgery as that sounds to me like the best option. Has anyone had any experience of claiming DLA and ESA? My DLA has just been turned down which I am appealing. if anyone can offer any advice it would be great. Thanks.
