Suggestions for Parasites

Hello everyone,

I am 31 years old currently living with parents based in the UK. I run a small Web Design company designing clients’ websites and helping them advance their business online.

I currently have a physical condition that has been going on for some time and I need some help. I have chronic pain in my stomach. I cannot eat. I eat small portions rather than standard breakfast lunch and dinner, enough to keep going and generally go hungry. If I eat too much the pain can be extraordinary. I also have a red rash on the right side of my face that has been there for some time.

I used to drink, smoke cigarettes and self medicate with marijuana however I haven't done this for four years. I also get cravings for junk food i.e. chocolate; potato chips etc however I don't eat these because they make it worse.

I have taken the normal medical route, been to the gastroenterology department in two hospitals, seen a specialist consultant, had blood tests, an ultrasound and a chest x-ray which all came back normal. I had two endoscopies which discovered two small ulcers in my stomach however I was prescribed omezrapole (which I still take) and was told they were gone and I have no inflammation, however my symptoms are exactly the same, and in fact getting worse. Basically they have told me there's nothing wrong with me.

Apart from omezrapole I also take pregabalin for pain, gavison advance and digestive enzymez (without Hydrochloric acid). These all help with the symptoms but have not resolved them fully.

Based on my symptoms and my research it seems like I have some kind of parasite. I need some suggestions for what to do as this condition is really inhibiting me. I want to get out of my situation living at home be independent however this ailment is really disabling. I work as much as possible to keep going but I don't have much money. I need suggestions, if anyone knows any specialist on this subject in the UK.

Cheers,

M.

Has your doctor done comprehensive stool testing?

      Hi Pippa,

I have had a stool test done although not sure if it was "comprehensive". I know that there are labs based in UK that do very sophistic tests for parasites however they are quite expensive, hence why I am looking to see if anyone has contacts of specialists that are inexpensive, do charity work or are willing to do a quid pro quo in exchange for web design services, cheers.

In the UK, the health service is free at the point of use. I would check with the NHS to see if they provide comprehensive stool tests. I don't know of any specialists or quid pro quo arrangements.Try the standard route first.

Hi.. I to have had ulcers and am currently on lansoprazole..

My point on this is, you said you take gavison which is not recommended at all... Was wondering if this might be contributing to your condition...

It may not be gaviscon that is causing the problem; it is a fairly mild antacid. Medications like pregablin are very strong indeed and can be toxic. Some PPIs can also be toxic for some people. It is better to avoid any medications like pregablin and derivatives of it.

      Hi Pippa and Mike,

      Thanks for your comments.

Mike Gaviscon Advance was actually recommended to me by the Chemist. As Pippa states like omeprazole it is an acid inhibitor, so it seems that my stomach is producing too much hcl as a symptom of what's going on. I have continued to take both and find them very helpful, I certainly notice a difference when I don't take them. After taking omeprazole for a while I was told my ulcers were gone and I had no inflammation but my symptoms are the same.

Pippa Pregabalin has actually been excellent for me in terms of managing chronic pain and helping me function. I chose this option becuase I couldn't take paracetamol or aspirin any more (in fact asprin may have caused the ulcers!) and wasn't interested in opiates. I don't plan to take these forever and am aware they are temporary solutions hence why I am looking for anyone who might know specialists in this area (parasite) who are inexpensive or may be willing to work pro bono for website services or do charity work.

If you are in the UK, your best bet is to ask your doctor about experts in parasites, pro bono or charity work arrangements. I know nothing about this because it is not my expertise and few of us on this site would be able to help with this because we are not doctors. This is a question that is best answered by your doctor because it is a medical issue.

Hopefully, you won't have to take Pregablin for too long because the longer you are on it, the harder it can be to come off it. It least it is doing something for you. I would be too frightened to take these medications because of the number of bad side effects reported.

    Hi Myles38779

Have you been tested for Helicobacter Pylori a gut bacteria that ravages your gut and causes pain an nausea. Tests include either stool test, breath test, endoscopy or blood test. If it is confirmed you do have HP you are prescribed a 3 antibiotic course to eradicate the bacteria. There are other gut parasites but HP is a very common gut bacteria. If you haven't been checked for parasites, get yourself checked...

      Hi Mary,

      Thanks for your comment.

That's interesting. I have done a stool test and blood test that came back clear but I'm not sure if it was for this bacteria you mention so I will check my records, cheers.
