sulfasalazine

i have been taking this for 6 months now and feel really tired with it and a strange feeling something in my throat ,spaced out feeling like a zombie sometimes, lack concentration just feel so ill on them sometimes get heart rushes and feel hot, on 2 a day one in morning one in evening i should be on 4 a day but i really dont think i could manage this as the way there making me feel, am scared to go on anything else incase makes me feel worse i dont no if i should just stop them an just take naproxen, does anyone else feel like this on sulfa tabs. xx

    Yes I am on 4 a day.I do take a lot of other tabs though so was putting spaced out and tired down to them.I do get hot like on fire for while. But the feeling you get like something in throat made me sit up as I do have that and didn't relate it to any drugs.lots of people have bad stomach on them which I don't. Think have been on them 2 year. I just need consultant to get me off steroids so am sticking with sulfasalazine til gives me something else.I have been on 3 biologics without success.It all gets on you and wears you down even more.

    I would have word with your consultant for something else.It all takes time to change to other stuff thou

    I was on sulfasalazine for a few months and never could get up to full dosage due to feeling almost exactly as you described. I felt totally motion sick with no motion required. My rheumatologist took me off that. I was on plaquenil anyway and a biologic. I've recently started methotrexate injections. I have been taking naproxen for inflammation but am trying life without it since reading that it could be the cause of the my fragile skin on my forearms. Talk to your rheumatologist before just doing naproxen since joint damage may be continuing even if you don't notice pain. Good luck. It's really frustrating how our bodies all respond differently to the med school available

    Hi ruth86, I'v been taking sulfazaline for 8 months 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening and like you say I also suffer daily with with heart palpitations and very hot  flushes often feel extremely tired and low mood although recently suffered a berievement so I'm finding it difficult to lift myself from the low mood. 

    I offten consider stopping the Sulfalazine but it has helped with the pain, swelling and stiffness although I still need to take naproxen every other day the improvement is keeping me going.

    hope you manage to find something that suits you soon.
