Sunscreen in cosmetics

A lot many cosmetics claim that they also give sun protection. Can such cosmetics be tested for SPF number? For example if a compact claims SPF, how to make sure that it will provide sun protection of that level? Can anyone help me?

I believe there are various on line companies that will do this but at a very costly price and probably not worth it.

If you only buy tried and tested cosmetics that have got a good reputation, and have been sold for years and are in reputable shops, then its a good bet that what they claim is correct.

Beware of cheap cosmetics with brands you've never heard of , and have no track record. Also beware of fake cosmetics.
