Superpath hip replacement

I need a hip replacement.  My sister in Australia is in the same situation and is having a superpath hip replacement shortly.  Do you know any hospital in the UK carrying out such a method?

Hi Rachel re your sisters THR by the superpathhip method she can find out more about the op by viewing the American Dr Jimmy Chow Superhip web site which is very informative and also there are a lot of patients reviews. He has been using this method for 6 yrs or so. He pioneered this procedure and the Sydney surgeon Dr Sol Qurashi studied with him and brought the superpathhip method to Australia. Anyway trust you both end up with successful ops whichever method you both choose

    Regards Mark from Aus

Ps. My scar is about 3 inches plus a small "hole" next to it about 1/4 inch diameter leaving small scar, it is just below the point you would put your hand on your hip more st the dide than in buttock. You tube has a great vid showing the op. I was in theatre 4.30pm mon on ward 8:30pm after ga (no sicknesssmile ) slept sound till 6:30 am ( normally they get you up after 4 hrs but they let me sleep cause im special:D or they didnt have staff to help me) . At first couldnt move leg but by 10:30 was up and about with walker, two crutches by lunchtime, home wed evening, one crutch by thursday , static bike by two weeks , gym class phisio ay three weeks . Four weeks now still get tired and achy , it is still major surgery. Can walk unaided short distances but only slowly so as to not limp at all, with crutch faster than I've walked for yearssmile physio says in a year or so ( op only been in uk a year) the hip precautions will be removed from superpath patients as capsule around joint remains intact ( hip cant dislocate, which is other aspect of procedure, they don't have to dislocate the joint).i have ceramic ball and socket and surgeon expects it to last 20+ years ! I hope so :D

All the best jay. Msg me if any questionssmile

Hi Jason, I am looking at doing my first THR, and haen been referred to a surgeon offering the SuperPATH procedure.  My understanding is that he has been doing them for about a year, and did about 70 last year.  I'm conncerned about the lack of any long-term data on this procedure, which I uunderstand is an unavoidable function of it being new, and the fact that my surgeon uses different manufacturers for the insert and the cap.  What can you tell me about your brand of 'hardware', and how you feel after 9 months or so?  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi lisa , sorry only just noticed your request, Have you had thr? Not sure what make of implant , probably microport i guess as they do the toolkit for superpath op, it ceramic on ceramic uncemented and has been great from day 1, tho there is a proccess of muscle recovery / re-training to go through and having the end cut off any bone in you is gonna leave a mark lol. I am now at 12 months and dont even notice my new hip now most of the time, thoi cant run very well yet due to instability of knee wich has only just learned to walk in a straight line( my left foot pointed out to 11'oclock for years before op now it points straight biggrin

Hi Jason, hoping you could give me some info on your superpath thr recovery. I have hip dysplasia in both hips and am under Prof Griffin. Mr Cronin performed a hip arthroscopy in April that shows too much damage for a pao operation but today at my post op appt they mentioned a superpath thr being a possibility. Would love to hear how you have found things. Thanks. Belinda.

Hi Belinda, just noticed your post, things going fine nearly 18 months on. Journey has had its ups and downs but

Now seems very settled. I would recommend this method and Mr Cronin

Is the guy for it.. make sure you do your exercises ... I think physio very important, especially self physio. Still expect

A few months ups and downs like I said. It isn't all suddenly better at 6wks, as Michael said to me "it can take as long to recover

Strength in leg as the problem existed before operation.

Hope all goes well for you. Jay.

      Hi Jay,

Thanks for responding. Glad to hear you're doing well. I'm due to have a psoas injection next month to see how much that might help but beyond that they'll discuss the thr option. Hoping they will do the super path type as it sounds like a better option. Have you had any long term restrictions of movement or activities through having it done?

      Kind regards

      Belinda

By having a joint replaced, the artificial one is never going to be as good as the original.

That said, my range of motion is very good, I can't run very well though and out is not recommended to take up any new sports where you might fall etc ie Skiing.

I walk a little slower than I used to but that may be just gettin old anyway.lol.

Otherwise , now I often don't even think about my hip anymore.

      Any. Jay

    Hi Rachel,

I am very glad for you that you got a super path THR. I am looking for a surgent in Europe anywhere. Do you know if this op is available now in the hospital where you had it done or it was a special occasion (a demo)? Thanks
