Supplements after TKR or PKR

Wondering what people are taking for extra vitamins and supplements since their surgery, either on their own or advise from medical personnel. These would be in addition to your pain meds, if you still take those.

Ive been taking magnesium, omega red, and cranberry which I alway take for my urinary system.  My physio is big on recommending magnesium.

im post op five months now, and it honestly think I've turned a better corner.  I think my daily biking is helping for sure.

happy new year...all the Best for running races in 2015.

    Hi Sharon,

I'm about same phase as you - 6 months post op at end of month. Interesting question. I was never told to take extra vitamins or supplements. I just take what I always did, which is not much, just calcium supplement.

Sent too soon!!! Do you still suffer from fatigue? That seems to be my biggest problem now. Gets so bad at times I can't function. Makes me wonder if it's from TKR or something else going on.

You must still be in Florida if you are still out there bike riding! smile

Happy new year to you! Betty

running races, sharon?  good god, very ambitious but good for you.

i just posted on betty's post as she was saying how tired she is.  i feel the same.  of course my surgeon never mentioned anything to build up energy levels again!  i have hard time digesting the vitamin b complex mentioned by suizi, it repeats on me all day which i find very disagreeable.  but i do see my kinesiologist soon and will also book an appointment to see my chinese herbalist at one point to help me get back on track.

Running races, I was being sarcastic...  I have to say I sleep better the last month than I have for years.   I can easily sleep ten hours at night and not feel guilty....so I guess I'm still tired and need this rest.  I do have a bathroom trip though.  Most nights I go to bed around 10-11 and get up between 7-8.  No kips in the daytime.

Oh do I envy you, sleeping through the night!!! I have done that " once in a blue moon" and I feel so refreshed the next morning and ready to take on the day.

      How I miss that!

No need to feel guilty! If you can sleep that deeply, that says your body does need the rest. Good for you! Maybe it's the exercise & fresh air you are getting from bike riding?

biggrin  you just never know on this site, some very ambitious people!  i totally agree with you, i also sleep loads.  i am able to have power naps up to three hours during the afternoon and then still get 8 hours at night.  i have always been able to sleep lots but nowadays i need more too ... and i don't feel guilty at all.  yoohoo!
