Suprapubic cathaters

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm due to have cystoplacy and with that I have to have a supra pubic catheter,I've never got on with cathaters yet never had one supra pubic,if anyone could help me set my mind at ease and let me know what it's like having one that would really help me....x

    I have had suprapubic a couple of times (when my urethra closed up so that a catheter couldn't be inserted) whilst waiting for a dilation.  Mine was a few inches below my tummy button.  Mine were done under local anaethetic or gas and air, it was very quick and not at all painful.  Like you I was quite scared, but it was absolutely fine, so really don't worry about it.  The tube is covered by a dressing and you just change it when you have a bath/shower.  Best of luck x
