Surgeon doesn’t agree on Ultrasound report

i am 10 months post op suprastanaus repaired. i was doing okay until last week. all of a sudden woke up with stiffness and pain. i waited few days but could improve and rushed to GP and he ordered Ultrasound scan and it showed Full thickness of Subscapularsis tendon and i went to see a surgeon who performed my last surgery today. he examined physically for every angles for all tendons and he thinks everything is okay and told me not to worry but i asked if he can order an MRI for the sake of peace of mind (though he wasnt really willing to do as he thought it was okay ) he was like "i think they have got it wrong". as per my feelings too, my movement is okay and little bit pain but thats always been there anyway since the surgery. Has anyone have any experience about Surgeon not being agreed with the radiologist's opinion ? can ultrasound be misleading ? i really hope they are wrong as i dont wanna go for another surgery .

i dislocated my shoulder, ripping three of the four rotator cuff tendons. supraspinatus and infraspinatus ripped completely off the humeral head requiring repair with anchors. Subscapularis 60% tear no repair. 15 wks into pt my pt ripped supraspinatus off its screws. revision surgery three weeks later with a double row of anchors worked, rehab all over. 10 months into second recovery i was installing a roof rack on my Grand Cherokee-track bolts and awkward reaching while screwing in bolts into the roof sprained the repair. i have 100% range of motion and strength. i could mot raise my hand arm above my chest. i thought for sure supraspinatus ripped off again. went to my surgeon-he's awesome. he yold me i was fine just sprained. rest acouple of weeks. im told that i'm the minority of such a positive recovery. Saw my pt a couple of months ago she was in awe of the outcome. Anyhow, slow and steady. stay calm. ice it, see your dr. give it a couple of weeks.

      WOW!

I hurt my left shoulder in a bicycling accident. What were you doing? Sounds like you were doing acrobatics or something to get that kind of injury!

And you're lucky as hell to be able to recover so completely!

Give yourself some extra time to recover even a few months beyond what they say...it's an investment in your future health!

hi mate, yes, the MRI looks good. everything is fine except there is moderate bursitis which is getting better than what i had before. so i am having crotisone injection next week. Surgeon and PT both were not happy with the ultrasound reporter. i am feeling better too. thanks for valuable time and words 😃

I agree, if the MRI shows no problem I doubt any surgeon would do anything.

However, if the MRI shows somekind of issue, as mine did, my surgeon said, "I won't know everything until I get in there" meaning arthoscopic surgery where he could probe around all over with the lil camera.

If you've got pain and range of motion issues, it definitely warrants more examination. So I hope they give you another MRI with dye and I hope you let us know what happens as this is quite intriguing.

I will say this...if you're relatively young, your tendon tissue is very good and it's better to have something fixed now rather than later if you can so that it doesn't get worse and cause bigger issues later. When a tendon is damaged, it puts stress on other tendons and structures and may get larger or worse along with other tendons.

Ya, I know it's an ordeal but you will learn something from it that will last you a lifetime, not to mention the peace of mind knowing you addressed a health issue that has been worrying and affecting quality of life.

These online forums are full of people who are sharing and venting issues. I think manytimes after they get better they just move on and don't come back and let everyone know that they are ok and that perhaps all the surgery and inconvenience they went through was worth it because now they can move on with their lives.

I'm one of those who has been through 2 arthoscopic surgeries on both shoulders, rehabed well and am pretty happy with the results, even though my recovery is an ongoing thing with continued strengthening and ROM exercises. I want people to know that there is a light at the end of tunnel that I'm now enjoying tremendously, so don't give up hope or let fear or frustration get you down too much.

yeah, you are right. i have got appointment booked in for next week and so the surgeon. i have started to feeling bad for other shoulder too , because of overuse which is quite frustrating at the same time. thanks for sharing your experience and suggestions. you have a good day 😃

It helps to discuss this. When you see the surgeon and/or therapist, tell them both how you are feeling and why. Say that you are worried, frustrated, that you have fears that your tendons are more damaged.

After you have surgery they literally scare you with admonitions not to move, avoid jerky movements and this tends to increased the worry and apprehension regarding the whole healing process. It made me to the point of paranoid.

And there are sooooooooooooooooooooo many things that they don't tell you. Little things that amount to huge things really. For example, did they tell you to surround yourself with pillows - pillows to put under your arm when you sleep or rest to take the pressure off the affected arm? Things like using an ice machine? A tens machine?

I could go on and on about so many things that you should do or use in the course of your day that you did without when you didn't have shoulder problems.

thanks MIKE . yeah, i saw PT today earlier too and he was also 100% positive about not having any problem and said Ultrasound is not really correct. so, it will be very horrible situation if the MRI shows the damage which PT thinks the chances is ZERO. and he wanted me to continue the program. so , i am little but positive and feeling better now and ofcourse the pray still continues until i get my MRI done which is this coming sunday.

yes, you are right they dont mention many things that could potentially make patients life easier and better. it is hard to find people from medical field who goes extra mile i guess.

hey, what was in the link which has been removed by moderater? if it is something helpful please PM me. thank you!!! i will let you knkw the outcome of my MRI next week. take care !!
