Surgeon says my painful hip is Perfect !!!?????!

Posted , 12 users are following.

So ...asked to see surgeon ASAP as still lots pain 12 weeks in plus one leg longer than the other . Pain meds 4 X daily and can't sleep for throbbing groin. Meeting went pretty much as expected ... X rayed my hip and said it was ' beautiful ' and 'perfect' and if he had to use an X Ray at a conference it would be mine .

Not if I came with you I replied ...

YOU wouldn't be allowed to speak ! He grinned back .

So pretty much my hip is A star top of the class . So why is it more painful than before? He measured legs and there is 1/2 difference . Was quite evasive as to whether that would cause pain but said it would be resolved he promised . So referring me to podiatry for shoe lift . He said there is a margin for error in

Leg length . Unlike last time I saw him when he said most people were pretty much pain free after the Op he now said it is ' early days ' (12 weeks) . It's all positive he said . Beautiful is not a word I would use to describe my hip pain I said and the former pain has been superseded by a worse one . Didn't really get any answers why and he agreed to my comment that nerve and tendon etc damage would not show on an X Ray . But no worries as he has done hundreds and mine is blinking marvellous ( apart from keg being longer and in awful pain ..)

I did hear another lady complaining in reception that hers was so painful too . Must have been the day of the rejects .

Don't get me wrong this guy has a hell of a job and is very nice and smiley and reassuring and positive . But he evaded my questions about returning to work , pain control and argued that naproxen is the same as Ibupropen when it is stronger . So I said what if this is the same in 6 months ? He evaded that too . Once the X Ray shows the job is done, and perfectly so in my case even tho I now 1/2 cm taller on bad leg , the surgeon has done his job . Yet I know on this forum all sorts of other muscular problems can arise that don't show on X Ray . I am thus trusting in his positivity and presuming that this is just early days and hoping that foot lift thingy will help . I asked him how long the referral would be and he didn't know . He said my other hip was fine . Did a lot of computer measuring and talking surgeon speak till I wearily asked ' what does that MEAN '? and he conceded there was a slight difference .

Do any fellow hipsters know if just 1/2 cm off could cause bad pain ? Thanks

Watch this space .. Off to suck another co codamol sad(

      Thanks Madla I do not

Sleep well either . Groin wakes me early hours .. I have not been pain free since day of Op October 8 th . Yesterday was much better so thought I had turned a corner at last .. today really hurts . It feels so much more than 1/2 cm ... that surgeon should have measured your leg !!

It won't be any consolation right now, but everybody has legs that are different lengths! Nature and evolution are not quite that good, and each "side" it's not a perfect mirror of the other. In terms of leg length, what your are noticing is the difference between then and now. In time you will stop noticing it. The difference needs to be very large for that to create a major ongoing problem, and 1/2 cm isn't that large. My physio recommended increasing in a pair of "barefoot shoes" for around the house after the op. They are like skins - they slip on the foot but have no form to them - more like foot protectors than shoes. Walking barefoot is good for us, and it helps us to stabilise gait.

As far as the pain goes, that amount of difference might cause a bit of lower back ache, or even a little knee pain. But nothing like what you are describing. As a matter of curiosity, are you able to manage your exercises?  And is the pain worse or different when you do exercise?

I can do some exercises easily but any that involve lifting the leg up

Are hard or bending down .. I still use a grabber . I used to be able to get into my knees easily .. now it's a major tortoise moaning movement . Feel I have aged 25 yrs. ironically all this started 5 years ago with severe groin pain and an MRI scan showed I had an inflammed and agitated abducter muscle . Then they said I

Needed new hip .. now groin pain worse than 5 years ago . Also around top of scar area and muscles underneath .. I have just one physio left on the NHS!

Do the NHS physios do anything besides giving you exercises to do ? That's why I'm going to see my own physio, she does massage and acupuncture as well. It's ok doing exercises but if the muscles/tendons are inflamed or irritated, exercise will only make the situation worse ! 🤔

Join the burning groin and thigh club. I don't know if my legs are the same length but my pain is real. My doc also says my hips are fine. All I get for pain relief is an nsaid which doesn't do a thing for me.

Sorry you have this problem but you are not alone

Ha ha Susan. Can I join as well. Groin pain eases off. Then it's back. Aches and pains and now 13 weeks. Think it's all par for the course lol.

Just been to pantomime with my 2 granddaughters. Dragging myself up the stairs after a lady who was worse than me. I was telling her I'd had hip replacement. She says try 2 Knees ! Hips are a walk in the park as opposed to knees.

Guess that's it then. Hopefully given time and patience we will all heal.

One thing I did do with groin pain is quite the physio exercises and allow to heal. It certainly eased mine.

Aw Susan bizarrely that makes me feel better . Love the club name ... made me smile first time today . Anti inflammatories don't touch it .. nor aspirin or co codamol . Just picked husband up and he watched aghast as I hauled myself out of drivers

Seat on good leg then sort of twisted round to grab onto the roof rack before wincing onto the bad leg and hobbling painfully to the door ! Bloody fed up

      !

cheesygrin I know... nothing elegant about this ... oh dear ... it is not easy, is it ... but then, at least for me, the alternative would have been in constant OA pain and eventually a wheelchair ...

Happy New Year Hazel to you and your loved ones ...

we have a lot to be grtaful for

      angel blessings

      cheerz

      Hi Hazel

Something that might help the car journeys. I have a round pad that turns and helps me in and out of car. I also got a metal handle to fit onto the car door. This is great to help you out of car. Both from Amazon.

What helps us get upstairs without looking like a crab lol. Also kneeling. Right performance getting back up 😂

New Year new hope and hopefully totally different this time next year. Lots of love.

Hi Hazel. The gadget that fits the car door is called a Handy Bar. The other thing is a swivel pad. Xxx
