:D my wife has had this awful illness for about 4 years and had the glycol injection which lasted about 8months before the pain returned .she was unable to eat and had great trouble speaking. she was taking oxycarbmazapan which affected her mobility.4months ago she had the mvd operation to sever the nerve it has up to now been an outstanding success she had no pain at all immediately and has put on some of the lost weight.my wife also has ms so walking is always a problem but even this has improved slightly. the only side effect is the right hand side of her face is numb. i hope this will help some of you out there. i am sorry if i have spelt the medical terms wrong
good luck

How is your wife now? Is her face still numb?

yes her face is still numb but she thinks it worth it to be rid of the pain also she can eat now and has put on some of the weight that she lost although as she puts it she does make a bit of a mess. if we eat out we all keep an eye on her to warn her if something is stuck on her numb side to save her any embarrassment.i did ask our doctor if the numbness would go but she did not have any information about it, if she finds out anything i will let you know
best of luck

I just came across your post. I too had success with MVD and like your wife I was completely numb after surgery. My surgery was on 6/19/2014 so it has been two and a half month already. I would like to know if your wife is still numb. After surgery I was completely numb and it felt like a frozen piece of meat on the right side of my face. Numbness include scalp, lips, tongue, teeth, roof of mouth, forehead, temple, cheek and chin. My numbness has subsided quite a bit and the only areas that are still numb are my cheek, teeth, and lips (about 35%). I can feel the nerves are constantly working in those areas. It feels like there's a small bubble flowing around trying to find a place to escape and that's how the numbness can go away. It moves around and tingles 24/7 in my cheek, teeth and lips then periodically it releases a tiny small burst of bubble and I can feel the numbness becomes softer. It's a strange feeling, but that's the only way I can describe how it feels. I also don't know when I have food on my face or teeth when I eat so I constantly wipe my mouth with a napkin with every bite.
I do pray this numbness will go away, but I can live with this versus the TN pain, which I suffered for 12 years.
