Surgery or not

I broke my fibula on April 17 by slipping on the stairs. its a minimally displaced spiral fracture of the medial malleous and a fracture at the fibular head. they decided not to do surgery because it was barely displaced so i was in a walking boot for 8 weeks. At 6 weeks the ankle fracture was barely healing so they did an MRI that showed a severed anterior syndesmotic ligament. I was referred to an ankle surgeon and diagnosed with CRPS and sent to a PT who specializes in CRPS to try to get the nerves calmed down before deciding of surgery is needed. the surgeon did a stress xray that did not show diastasis but he still suspects I have some but its being masked by scar tissue and swelling. I've been in PT for 4 weeks now and while my mobility is improving I am still in a lot of pain, still walk with a limp and have pretty bad rigidity. My PT says you don't need ligaments, scar tissue will do the job. My concern is not doing surgery and having this haunt me forever. I'm also worried if i do surgery I'll end up with more pain and problems.

Can i get some stories of surgery success and surgery complications along with stories of people who didn't do surgery and what your outcome was?

I'm 14 weeks out from injury today, should i still be in constant discomfort and pain at some point every day?
