Surgery or Not on 5th Metatarsal Bone Fracture

I fractured my 5th metatarsal in a body step at the gym on January 2018. I used weight bearing boot for 6 weeks. I had a follow up with my orthopedic surgeon on the 7th week and the bones are not healing. I followed up again on the 9th week and still the bones are not joint yet. He suggest a surgery as an option. I had 1 out of 10 pain as of now. I can stand and walk for 10-12 hours a day without that much pain ( naturr of my work)... Shall I consider surgery or let it be....

Thanks

Consider using a bone growth stimulator machine.  Also make sure you are getting enough calcium and Vit D.  Foot bones take forever to heal.  I would  do surgery as a last option.   Surgeons are always ready and willing to take you to surgery.

I totally agree with flower girl. Surgery is a last option. I broke my 5th metatarsal 4 weeks ago. I have upped my calcium intake and doing ankle flexing to help. I can walk on mine without the boot and it actually feels better that way. Good luck.
