Surgery Waiting times

Posted , 3 users are following.

I'm based in the UK and have now been waiting 23 weeks for surgery. I had my preop done at 2 weeks which is now invalid and will need redoing. I can not get a straight answer from anybody at the hospital in regards to what I s going on. The secretaries seem to all say they don't know anything and that only the surgeon can give me the date. I feel like I'm living in limbo and it's driving me insane! I've complained but it didn't get me anywhere. I can't do anything just incase i get last minute notice of surgery as they said they will give me 5 days notice to prepare.

Just wondered what other peoples experiences are with getting a date for surgery. How long was your wait?

Thanks

Rachael

    Hi Rach

I waited a year for surgery so be prepared. I was offered a date prior to this at 3 weeks notice which I couldnt take so thereafter I just kept phoning the secretary who was lovely and did follow up with consultant but in Manchester they only do 1 day a month operating 6 ops in this day so this could be why you are waiting for an appointment

Would be worth finding out if this is the case wherever you live?

it is so frustrating I know but good luck x

Hi Julie thanks for your reply,

It is the same in Leeds with my surgeon, he only does 2 surgeries a week as he works 1 day nhs and private the rest of the week.

His secretary is the most useless person I've ever come across which makes it harder.

I guess it is just a waiting game.
