Surgical scar irritating

Hi 🙋

Hope that you can help with this matter.

Just over a year ago I had orthopaedic surgery just over a year ago. I have got more surgery to come in the same area...now the problem is that on one of the surgical scar's I keep getting bouts of itchy irritation. Yet the other five surgical sights are fine.

Any ideas of what is causing it and what I can do?

Hello there. I know that some orthopaedic hospitals have nurses who monitor wound healing, and they may be able to advise eventhough your problem is not about that exactly. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London is one of them. I also had a relative who underwent spine surgery and she used to feel itchy near the operated sites, especially during bathing, for quite a long time afterwards. Not sure why, but think is pretty common.

      Hi 🙋 respecthealth

As for taking a bath 🛀 or shower I am fine. It's just every so often that I get a mad 😠 itch. What I don't understand is that it has been 15 months since the surgery and it's the first time that I have ever had this. During the past two years I have had five operations with more to come, but this is the first time that I have had it. What I can do is contact the hospital 🏥 in question, which is The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. Could you tell me, did the hospital 🏥 give your relative any suggestions?

Anyway I would like to thank you for your help and any suggestions that may arise.

Hello again mark357. My relative was prescribed some medication for a few days which stopped the itching. She cannot remember the name unfortunately, but thinks it was over the counter type. Aloe vera may help as it's meant to be good for skin, though never tried it myself.

      Hi 🙋 respecthealth

Thanks for your suggestion and I will give Aloe Vera a try. Being a natural product, I think it will be gentle on the skin.
