Svt and alcohol...?

So I have svt and I'm on a low dosage bisoprolol....I haven't had a drop of alcohol in almost a year. I've never been a big drinker but would like to have the occasional glass of wine. I just wondered what everyone's experiences have been. I'm talking 1 glass possibly 2. I just wondered if those with svt have cut alcohol out of their life completely or can they still enjoy and occasional glass? What I wonder about is the fact that I have fairly low blood pressure as is and if it will affect that. I suppose I can live without wine but it would be nice to enjoy if I can. 😊Just wanted to hear your experiences.

    Shelley,

I do occasionly have a glass of wine. I don't understand why, but at times it will make my heart beat very fast but other times  it does not. One time about a year ago, I had one glass of wine and it did put me into an SVT attack that lasted about an hour. My husband was driving me to the hospital, when it suddenly stopped and went back to normal rhythm.  My doctor has advised me not to drink any alcohol at all and also no caffeine but it really is hard to totally give up these things completely. How often do you have SVT attacks and how severe are they. Do you have to go to the ER or does it stop on it's own. I think you would just have to decide if the risk of an SVT attack is worth it. You might try just a half glass of wine and see if you have any reaction.

Hi Judy, thanks for sharing your experience. I have been on a beta blocker...low dosage 2.5mg so I haven't had any svt attacks since I started taking them. It's been 3 months. I also haven't cut out caffeine completely. I have 1 cup of coffee for breakfast and that's it and I eat chocolate occasionally and it doesn't cause me any problems. So i was going ro start out trying a small glass of wine to see how I do......Babysteps lol I could live in a world without wine but I would still like to enjoy the little things I used to...if possible. 😊
