I was put on bisoprolol 8 days ago after i was admitted to hospital with a heartbeat of 197 beats a minute, today i feel terrible, dizzy and if i am going to faint. Will this settle down eventually. I just want to live a normal life, i haven,t felt able to go out since taking this drug,i was coping with my missed heartbeats and the occasional attack of svt until i had this big attack at a family funeral,my heart had to be put back to a normal heartbeat this time. Someone ressure me that all will be well, it is frightening me. I am 69 and quite active. i also have a leaking heart valve probably after many years of this crazy hearbeat

Ann, I was your age when it all started for me also and I battled for two years with all sorts of procedures and drugs, none of which worked, but on looking back, the worst thing of all was the fear which built up as I listened (I have pulsile tinnitus too) to my heart going wild during attacks. Once again back on the ward with a heartbeat of 165 for three days, then I chose to have a pacemaker and AV node ablation and to come off all the drugs except blood thinner.
Apart from a few ectopic episodes, now almost three years later, I have almost forgotten about it all. I still have a faulty heartbeat but the symptoms are mitigated to the point where I am unaware of it. If I feel a disturbance at all, I take a Flecainide heart regulating pill and it has always passed so far. Best of all, I am free from that awful fear.
I remember what it is like and my heart, such as it is, goes out to you. I remember how the drugs felt - fatigue and fear. So I would say to you, just hold on as you pass through this experience. Sooner or later, the way to a better day to day life will be found for you. It is an individual path as none of us react the same to the same procedures and drugs and it is a hard and often long path to find what is right to give you back your quality of life. However, you have a voice and you must use it to tell medics how you feel and if a particular drug or treatment makes you worse - there are always alternative methods of treatment. Do learn to speak up for yourself and don't be intimidated.

Hi Ann, I was 60 when I was admitted to hospital with a heartrate of 190, I was immediately given Bisoprolol, it took about 1 and half days to regulate my heart again, I have been on 2.5mg a day ever since, I like you felt dreadful to begin with, I have been on it now almost 3 years and it does get better, My GP did say that I could take it in the evening if things were too bad, I tried for a while but kept forgetting to take it so went back to first thing in the morning which suits me now, like I say it will get better, don't suffer in silence though, if you are not happy then talk to your GP as there are other drugs on the market, Bisoprolol seems to be the drug of choice as it is the cheaper option.
