SVT - looking to chat with people in the same boat. I getting health anxiety

Hello, I’m looking to speak to people living with SVT. I was diagnosed of SVT during pregnancy back in August. I was told it possibly wouldn’t happen again after I had given birth, however after three months with my newborn baby decided to go back on the pill and once again the SVT returned. I know people have lived with SVT for years, which makes me asking for advice and worrying sound a bit silly. I’m just worried because my episodes are so frequent what affect it’s actually having on my heart. The waiting list to see a cardiologist is ridiculous as of course as it is not life-threatening. I think I’m just looking for reassurance really at 32 years old not really understanding if SVT is affecting my heart, due to my frequent episodes and how it’s affecting my life I just want to speak to someone that’s going through the same thing. With two young kids I just feel nervous and anxious about my future with them. I went out in York the other day and had two episodes during the day one became quite bad which make me nearly fall over when moving from one train to another. I try not to let it control my life and just enjoy, But it’s becoming quite difficult. Maybe I’m being a hypochondriac but when you get told you’ve got an issue with your heart you kind of get a bit worried even though everyone tells you that it’s not life-threatening and it’s nothing to worry about. I guess I just want to speak to someone really. Help put my mind at ease. So please anyone out there that feels similar or has been through similar in their life can I speak to you? can you give me some answers? and hopefully you can make me feel reassured. Thank you and thank you for taking the time to read this and if I sound like a drama queen I do apologise. Just very new to me and i feel slightly controlled by it.

Hi, how you're feeling is normal and at the same time I imagine frustrating, as it was/is for me. I'm male and was diagnosed in 2015 with SVT after previous episodes been disregarded as panic attacks, or caffeine induced. I was 27 years old at the time and placed on beta blockers for roughly 6 months which I reacted badly to and was not allowed to stop taking. I later that year had a catheter ablation for the SVT, and was told it was successful. 4 years later I still get the odd 5-10 second episodes, which is normal (apparently). Even though my SVT was treated, I still cant stop thinking about 'what if'. But, regardless I carry on and ignore my stupid brain and things are going good. Not sure if this helps, but this was my experience and how you feel about yours is normal and you're correct to be cautious, after all it's your health. But, if you feel concerned, keep pestering your consultant until they listen and act. Long term medication in my opinion has far greater risks than the procedures available to treat SVT. Hope this helps, God Bless.

i too am in the same boat of feeling nervous about more frequent episodes i got lucky and was able to see my cardiologist because someone canceled. i have had a rapid heart rate my whole life but was formally diagnosed and put on diltiaziem in 2011. are you on meds? i was just told that you can technically take another smaller dose pill to try to remedy an episode or of course ablation to try to eliminate all together. also i have been out of rhythm sometimes for hours and twice ive gone to the hospital where theyve administered adednosine. i was also just told because thats so scary to go through we can actually request diltiaziem through iv first. so theyre a lot of options. also have u tried the ice cold water on hands or face, bearing down like youre having a bowel movement. i also take lemon balm tincture to help reduce anxiety and nervousness which i have taken during an episode and it did help but its only sometimes, often times with my svt theres no rhyme or reason to onset and what stops it. are you open to trying cbd oil? i may start that soon as well. look up york cardiology svt on youtube theres a male doctor that talks about svt very interesting. sorry for rambling!! but breathe it is scary but our hearts are strong❣❣❣

No doubt, the birth control medication you are using is the cause of your onset SVTs. It wold be great to know the birth control medication you use. A recent study done in Europe showed that ibuprofen was the cause of SVTs. No study had been done in the US. 4 ER nurses informed me that ibuprofen was the only medication they were using when they began having episodes of SVT.
Again, I would need to know the birth med you take.

Hello all and thanks for your replies. I have now stopped taking the birth control medication and I had a episode the other day when I was out in York. I think that was a mixture of Rich food, Caffeine, alcohol and just pretty much enjoying myself. I was on the minipill,Cerazette. i now wondering if mines all hormone related as i am breast feeding baby. I hate been medication. Ive been on it in the post for other things and i don't have good side effects. Its just so hard to know what to do for the best. so how many years have you had it and how frequent are episodes? mine while pregnant very 6-10 daily and they had to put me on meds to send me home. Then after pregnancy i had nothing till i went on birth control. I then stopped it and they stopped and then i started again and it happened again. So once again i stopped and then had nothing for two weeks. But i went out and thats when i had two in York, 1 lasting over 1 hour. I nearly fell over when it went really hight moving between platforms. Ive watched the video on youtube but i still don't no how i feel. hopefully this tap will pick up what i actually have. i am tempted to start taking the pill while i am wearing the tape just so its captured?

yes my cardiologist suggested to almost try to have an episode while monitor is on so as uncomfortable as it is for us for them to get an idea of whats going on is important be sure to write down what you were doing and maybe what you werent doing like drinking enough water etc
i went off my birth control for approx a year i think and since i got off of it ive noticed more episodes which is odd but also turned 40 so maybe just some hormonal changes in general

I was diagnosed with SVT in 2002 and it got worse because I also had graves disease... it would happen all over the place and was quiet disruptive.. I also have 2 children who were young at the time... my gp put me on a betablocker which was great... very few episodes although it seemed every 2yrs I would have a cluster of them and my medication would be increased... in 2015 my episodes became so frequent despite the medication. I am a midwife and it was happening at work... I had to be taken to emergency and reverted with adenosine twice in a week... I decided to have an ablation... in 2016 I had the procedure.. best thing I did... 4 yes on I am starting to have a feeling that it is going to start but it never does... so now I just feel anxious about it again...I know that if I am really tired I have more events... hope things go well... see your go for meds while to wait for a cardiology appt.
