SVT triggers and illness

1st post from me as a mum to 14yr old who has SVT.

we are coming to 4yrs after the 1st ever episode , the most recent being this week after nothing for over 2 years. Kind of hoped it had gone away but no it’s back.

all episodes seem to be random with no real pattern other than she has certainly had a cough/cold on the last 2 occasions.

My question is have you noticed any patterns or triggers to an episode?

Do you ever feel an episode on the way? The last few months she has been getting flutters and said she thinks it’s going to happen, and it seems she was right. She said this was the same last time.

She also seems to have been getting flutters again this week.

thanks in advance

I found that on occasions my svt started with no warning whatsoever.  Other times I felt a rather weird sensation in my chest area as if something was going to start up.  It wasn't a pain rather an uncomfortable feeling which signalled the start of the svt.  Some  advice states that being generally down or say suffering from a cold or something which makes you feel a few degrees under may start it but it didn't with happen like that for me.  I didn't get the flutters you mention although I did get ectopics occasionally.  Get advice from a good physiologist if possible.

Chollylops, for me triggers are low potassium, dehydration, spicy foods, caffeine, a bad dream...I've heard coughing is used to try to break an SVT, maybe it can also bring one on.

    Hi Chollylops,

For me, i did not have cough. I used to get it in the midnight. All of a sudden I will wake up in the middle of night and feel the sensation. Taking deep breath and hold it, push hard to break it. Relaxation helps, panicking makes it worse.
