Swallowing difficulties!!!

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hi,

I went out for a meal just over 2 weeks ago and had trouble swallowing some steak, since then I can't seem to swallow anything dry or large, sticky etc.It feels as though my throat closes up and it is going to get stuck!

I am going for an endoscopy soon, which I hope will show something,as it is really getting me down!

I used to eat what I wanted, when I wanted, but now food is something I dread!Every meal time I have to go through the same thing!

Does it ever go???

Thanks.sad

      Hi Emlou

Ask your Dr to give you a fastrack appointment - 2 weeks max. They shouldn't need to be asked if you can't swallow food. Tell them your very worried it could be something very serious and its affecting your mental state of health - are you losing weight? Ask them about prescribing Ensure2 food supplement - they are liquid drinks in different flavours - like milkshakes with all the nutrician your body requires.

Very thorough point of view. I'm suffering from Globus Sensation and currently on Omeprazole 25mg every morning.I really think we should do this kind of thing to our GP otherwise, we will be treated when it is convenient for them.We should deal with this with sense of urgency. The sooner we know the results, the better. Thank you very much. Your input is much appreciated.

Thank you Diamond owl, I just want to prevent someone else from having to jump through hoops to try and get a diagnosis. It's been a long haul for me - but once you know what your dealing with, you can relax a bit more and learn how to manage your problem .

Hello Emlou You need to tell your Doctor about the weight loss - I lost 14lbs and they take it very seriously - hence putting you on the Ensure2 food drinks to sustain your energy and vitamin levels. If you don't get any joy from the Dr then I would suggest going to the emergency dept at your local hospital. I had a fast track appointment but 2 weeks wasn't fast enough for me, so I do know how you are feeling. I was fortunate to be able to have a self-funded private appointment. The consultation was £250 and the endoscopy was performed in a private hospital - I was in there about 6 hrs total cost £1,300.00 - just in case you were wondering about going down that route. It is so important to INSIST on having liquid food and telling your Doctor how much it is affecting your life. I still keep a supply of Ensure2 on hand, as there are still times when I don't feel I can swallow anything solid. Plse keep me posted how you get on.
