Sweating all day and night

Posted , 6 users are following.

On Monday January 1st (nice way to start the new year) I felt the right side of my neck and my lymphnodes were massive and sore but I felt fine and carried on with my day, about 6 hours later the body aches started.

Tuesday I woke up with  body aches and my right sided neck lymphnodes were even bigger and very sore.

Wednesday and Thursday I went to work but really shouldn’t have as the fever and pains were horrible and I was sweating ALOT (all day and all night)

Thursday and Friday night I was up all night sweating with fever, lymphnode pain and the body pain was so bad, only the right side of my neck was swollen (looked like a banana was stuck in my neck the nodes were so swollen) I also noticed red dots all over my roof of my mouth and back of my throat and a headache.

Saturday morning I went to the emerge department (it was a rough night and now my glands are swollen on the back of my neck also) the doctor looked in my mouth said it looked fine and felt my nodes. He didn’t say much but put me on antibiotics for soft tissue ... not sure why and I didn’t have the energy to question him.... no blood work NOTHING

Sunday I thought I was starting to feel a bit better but then That night I was right back where I started.  Returned to the ER on Monday and that doctor looked at me and immediately did the mono spot test..... by this point I was white as a ghost, dehydrated from the amount I sweat (day and night) and the red dots on the roof of my mouth and back of throat (classic symptoms the other dr missed) .  The test came back positive and I was actually relieved to find out what was going on with me.  Not that I want this but can’t control it and better then the other things I was thinking it could be.

My symptoms are very very bad sweating, I do drink a lot but it comes out as fast as it goes in, body aches, right side lymphnode swelling (side of neck and back of neck), headache, and very tired (but the aches keep me up).

Hope this goes away soon but I know it’s a long road to recovery. I am a 25 year old male and play hockey (dr won’t let me play and I won’t ) and love to snowmachine.  I’m always on the go and now have to learn to sit still, not that that’s hard right now as I’m so sick.

How long are these symptoms going to stay this long? When can I start to play hockey and snowmachine again?

    Hi Bob,

Really sorry to hear you've been feeling so unwell. I know what you mean about it being a relief to get a diagnosis, I got glandular fever when I was the same age as you (25) about 11 years ago, it took me a few weeks to get diagnosed and really scared me as I knew something was wrong.

I just want to write to ressure you that it does get better. The frustrating thing is that it can take a bit of time for some people, so don't panic if it doesn't come right within a few weeks, because it definitely will come given time. It's really important to get plenty of rest and remove stress as much as possible, a real mistake a lot of people make is to keep working through it and it's not the kind of virus that you can do that with unfortunately as it just makes things worse. Things that helped me included taking vitamins and herbs, including a good strong multi-vitamin per day, high doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day), B complex (really good for energy levels and combating fatigue) and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng / echnicea.

Remember just to be kind to yourself, if you're able to still do things you enjoy doing but that don't take energy or stress out of you that's good. Walking helped me as well, and even just meeting up with friends when I felt well enough. But you will definitely get there Bob and just hang in there just now - this phase the first few weeks is by far the worst and the intensity of it all lessens as time goes on until you feel like your old self again.

Thinking of you and there are lots of good folk on the forum here offering support and advice.

    Thanks Jackson and Craig

I hope it goes away fast but am preparing myself for longer, I have work insurance so at least I don’t have the stress of not getting paid when I’m off sick....  Forgot to mention that I also have mouth ulcers from the sweating and fever.   I have never been this sick... my girlfriend had it when she was in grade 12 and has been so helpful and patient. Her symptoms were different then mine though, it’s a crazy virus that’s for sure.  The thing that bothers me the most is not being able to play hockey.  If I’m out 3 months (let’s say) I will miss the whole season.  I wouldn’t wish this in my worst enemy.

    Hey Bob,

I have a “mono like virus” (tested negative for monospot twice and my EBV shows past infection so this could be anything... though two doctors kept bringing up mono so they said it’s a virus similar to mono)

ANYWAYS. When you feel better, you need to keep resting. Seriously. People have been saying it on this forum and I was like yeah yeah weaklings. As soon as I started feeling better I cleaned the house, Christmas shopped, did more with my dog, and started sleeping less. Big mistake. I crashed a week later and was SO WEAK for about 5 days. Don’t do it. Rest. Even when you feel good stay in bed for another week.

I’ve been sick since start of November, this is week 9 for me. Slowly starting to feel better - but still have a long ways to go. I’ve been takin vitamins C, BComplex, CoQ100, B6, B12. Staying in bed or on the couch with minimal exertion. I pick one thing per day around the house that I will accomplish (clean kitchen or laundry) WHEN I feel good. Then I stop.

    Best of luck to you.

      Hey Bob,

Yeah I know that the EBV virus is the same one that causes cold sores and things so think there possibly could be a link there with ulcers and that too....just remember you ARE going to get FULLY better, I trust Jesus with that one for you Bob, hang in there!

Sounds like some great advice from Van there too....thinking of you all....rest is so important without doubt, even when you start to feel a bit better it's just about doing things gradually.

Thank you I plan on resting  and taking people’s advice .... my mom came over today with all the vitamins I need and my girlfriend is doing everything for me.... it helps that she had

It before and understands what I’m going through.... I know when I am a little stronger I will want to go play hockey and jump on my snowmachine but if I want to golf and play baseball this summer I guess it’s best I don’t ! This forum is great to read and the advice from everyone is amazing ! Happy I found it.  It’s sucks that everyone is different, I wish it was a 1 week  thing and then back to normal... I wouldn’t wish this on anyone .... any more advice or just want to send their stories my way keep them coming ... I have a lot of time on my hands ... all I do is rest and sleep

      Hey Bob,

im a 41 year old woman form the u.k and I've been suffering for about 13 months with glandular fever, I would say I have post viral symptoms now (apparently)

its so so frustrating as everyone is different with this nasty virus.if we had an end date I think I would be able to handle it a bit better!  Because I just keep thinking 'when' when will I be better.....

      my symptoms included, as follows.

      breathlessness

      exhaustion

      thirst

      tingly arms and legs

      achey arms

burning thighs- (still get this at night)

      low mood, crying.

      sore throat

my recovery I would describe as a zig zag pattern, of having good days then bad days follow, in the beginning I had loads of bad days with sporadic good days, now it's lots of food days with few bad ones( so it is getting better!) although because it's so slow, you can't actually see the progress day to day....maybe month to month! I kept a diary which helped me look back.

eat as healthy as you can, fresh fruit and veg, avoid processed food, avoid alcohol, I've now cut out sugar, drink plenty of water, take vitamins like Craig suggested. And rest.....like vancityraincity said!! Try and accept it and try to go with the flow because there is nothing else you can do. It will go, hopefully sooner than later but be kind to yourself and remember the Hockey will be there when you're well again!

these forums are great and there are awesome people on it.

      take care

Oh Caroline I really feel your pain with this. I know it's been so hard for you. You have helped so many people on this forum even though going through such a tough time yourself, you really deserve so much credit for that and you are a blessing to us all.

I just really hope things can settle as time goes on - remember in no way are you not getting over this and you ARE going to get 100% (or as near as) better this year!

Thank you Caroline ... I hope you get better soon, I am 2 1/2 weeks into this and am fed up so I can’t imagine what your going through the last 13 months sad keep your head up and take it day by day a positive outlook on things always helps heal smile you got this ! I haven’t been on here the last couple days to update ... I’m not as sweaty and fevered but VERY  tired and mild body aches.  Sunday my spleen was swollen and sore (but that’s a good thing as it’s doing it’s job), my neck lymphnodes have went down a bit but still pretty big.  Went for a checkup yesterday with my family doctor and he said no hockey for another 4 weeks and off work for another few weeks.  He said I am definitely getting better but again told me It’s a long road and I need rest.  I have been resting (hard not to I’m always tired), eating, taking vitamins and drinking lots.  This site has been amazing, reading everyone’s stories has helped me through! Will update again soon. Positive vibes to everyone

Sounds like you have been doing all the right things Bob, that's all you can do! Definitely need to be careful if your spleen is swollen, that must be so uncomfortable. You're definitely going to get better Bob, and the more good things you are doing at this stage the better the chance for a quicker recovery.

Now the throat pain!! Red throat (can’t see white spots) but hard to swallow ! Will this EVER END... I know I’m just past the 2 1/2 week mark but you would think the symptoms would be the same and not new ones popping up..... at the beginning I had ulcers in my mouth from the fever I had but those are gone and a sore throat has now started... I can hardly swallow ... my throat is just red I don’t see white puss ....  So frustrating

      Hi Bob,

Oh it's so frustrating I know with the virus, it just feels like one things after the other often. I really hope that your throat settles down and that you are able to swallow without being in pain. It's awful and this is the worst spell because it's the acute phase - this spell will pass Bob and things won't be so intense it's just so hard to get through this time a few weeks after diagnosis, but remember things WILL get better and you won't always feel this way - full health will return I believe thanks to Jesus.
