I am so sorry about your sweats and with that much mg. Since I started out  about 11 years ago on 35 mg and then went to 75 mg and finally the 150 mg.  I still had a few but not near as bad. I am almost 64 years and usually they don't last this long either. Now I am going back to 75 mg a day and then 75 every other day after 1 weej. The only reason I am lowering and going off is the weight. Yesterday I got put on Gabapentin which my Dr said has helped with sweats.  It is for 300 mg and I will see if it works.

Hello I was on 150mg Effexor for 9 years.  Last year it took me 10months to withdraw, as that way I would get no withdrawal symptoms, and it worked.  I am 73 years old and had been on anti depressants for 20 years.  I found Effexor suited me well, but like you, put on a lot of weight.  Since stopping I have lost all the extra weight and more!!

Yes, that can be one of the embarrassing side effects. I used to sweat alot. Eye site as getting worse. Ringing in my left ear. No desire for sex whatsoever. I went from taking 150mg a day for close to 10 years. Started coming off them when I realized all the side effects were worse then how I actually felt before I started taking them. I forgot what normal was. Started tapering off on 8/3/14. Today is  9/18/4. I'm down to taking 9mg last night. I decrease by 1mg a day now. And I feel great now

Good luck to you and the side effects of these drugs are really sad. Want to feel better but then have to deal with the other things. Hope you do better.

Congratulations!    You have done what many people just can't do. i am interested in knowing how you have managed this so far and what discontinuation symptoms you have experienced.   I am in the same boat as you . Have been on 37mg twice a day for many, many years, like yourself.  Now I want to feel normal again. and intend to taper very slowly ( Doctor permitting.) What is your secret? It is good to hear your are feeling

      great.

Like you, I withdrew very slowly and did not get any withdrawals.  Took me 10 months.  I was on 150mg for 9 years, and on anti depressants for 20 years.  Been a year since I stopped.  Anxiety returning, but only "blips" of depression.

Hope all goes well for you.

My doctor suggested I withdraw.  I was on 150mg a day.  When got down to 75mg a day, I asked to be switched to the pills, as these could be cut.  These are generic and not named Effexor, and can be different, but I was determined to stop.

I bought a pill cutter on line and that way I cut the pills into smaller and smaller doses.  This took months and months, but I did not have any withdrawals.  I did stop cold turkey oncebefore, so know what withdrawals can be like.

By the time I stopped the drug, after, as I say, 10 months I was down to the tiniest amount on a finger tip.  I cut the pills into smaller and smaller doses, sometimes taking a small amount in the morning, and another small amount in the evening.  I did it by myself as my doctor did not know how to reduce beyond getting me down to 37.5mg.  It can be done, and I know it will be difficult, but I am a grandma of 73 and I reckon if I can withdraw without any problems, then so can anybody.

I got no discontinuation symptoms and am doing OK.

Oh dear that is a problem, but I understand it is quite common with Effexor.  I have read where some doctors prescribe it for hot flushes and have always been surprised by that.  I stopped Effexor a year ago, but get night sweats even now, although I am well past retirement age!!  Not sure if they are left over from when I took Effexor.

Have you asked a pharmacist what they recommend to stop the sweats?  There may be something you can use.
