Sweats

Hi All,

For quite some time now I have had terrible cold sweats, usually through the evening and night. It is so bad that I have to sleep with a towel on my pillow. Dont know if this has to do with medication for COPD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Have mentioned to my Doc but am none the wiser. Anybody any ideas? No smart remarks about menopause please LOL.

Regards,

Robert.

    Hi Robert

I don't really think I can help much with this one, it could be your medication, or it could be to do with the Traumatic Stress Disorder. Are you feeling anxious at the time? Feeling anxious sometimes brings this sort of thing on. I'm sorry I can't really help you much, did the doc not give you any feed back when you mentioned it?

If it is to do with feeling of Stress or Anxiety, sometimes changing routine slightly before bed may help, perhaps playing some soothing music just before sleep. I had a very traumatic experience myself a good few years back now and I felt compelled to change my bed sleeping position so that it was different to that at the time of the trauma. I also used a technique called the sedona method which I found extremely helpful for the nightmares that followed my trauma. Do pm me if you want to know more about the technique/method, but this really is for the trauma side of things or fears and anxieties.

I hope you will be able to identify any possible triggers to understand this better. Do you think this has a lot to do with your sleeping problem at the moment maybe? Is this also affecting your breathing? You don't have to answer any of these questions just sort of throwing some ideas your way in order to try and help.

Take good care of you Robert, I really do hope this problem will be resolved for you soonest.

    Hi V,

Thanks for the info which is all good food for thought. The cold sweats happen usually when I am asleep and it is the cold wet towel that awakens me. At the minute I have an appointment with a Trauma Counsellor for this Thursday but would appreciate more info on Sedona Method. Nightmares are not as frequent now as they were but are still pretty horrific. Doc offered no comment on sweats although I was there with another problem. He does keep a very close eye on me and is very supportive, seeing me every eight weeks at present and sooner if required. Will check side effects of medications to see if they offer any enlightenment. I'm sure that Trauma and stress didn't and doesn't help COPD and breathing. I know that sometimes I am tensed up without even realising it and have to consciously relax, and sometimes it is hard to relax in those times where I have to concentrate on every breath, never mind think. Thankfully I am as well as I am and I really do have Abundant Life.

    Regards,

    Robert.

    Hi Robert

I'm so glad your doc is seeing you regularly and you are getting the proper support with the Trauma Counsellor, with what you have been through you will need all the support you can get. I have to say I think you are pretty remarkable to have survived such ordeal/s and I do wish you a speedy full recovery from the traumas.

I think the tensing is one of the things that may follow a traumatic experience as I recall I also went through a period of physical tensing, it lasted quite a few months. I feel sure a daily routine of relaxation practise and perhaps belly breathing (abdominal breathing) would be helpful.

I will pm you shortly about the keys words used in the Sedona Method, I did the full course and it really did help me cope with the after affects of trauma and also helps release the emotional impact this has on us. If you web search 'Sedona Method Basics' this will give you more information about the method as well.

Take good care, good wishes to you.
