swelling behind the knee

Hi been suffering a lot with pain in back of leg and knee went to docs didnt know back of my knee is swollen he gave me gel to put on it for the pain walking with a limp now cant bend my knee properlysad

    Sorry to hear you have fibromyalgia. A friend of mine has it, and I know how debilitating it can be. Where your swelling is concerned, did you do anything that you know of to cause this, because before you mentioned the fibromyalgia, I was wondering if you had a Baker's cyst. They're caused by arthritis, and fluid builds up in a sac behind the knee. If it bursts, then it causes pain down the back of the leg for some time until it all drains away, The cyst itself doesn't usually create much discomfort unless it becomes very large, and inhibits movement.

    I had one before my tkr when the surgeon drained it, but it's back now and feels like he left a golf ball behind before stitching me up. Hope the gel works for you, but if not, make sure you have xrays or a scan. Don't settle for anything less.
