Swelling in knees; PMR related?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Since last October I have had periodic swelling and pain in both knees, one worse than the other. I have the left drained almost monthly, the right after 5 months. Fluid has inflammatory markers in it.

One rheum says its RA and another says its PMR. Prednisone has little effect. Also have osteoarthritis and meniscus tears in both.

Currently on humira and mehotrexate. No longer on pred for over a week. Are these knees affected by PMR?

    They could be.

Medscape says "In patients who have synovitis with effusions, synovial fluid analysis reveals signs of mild inflammation, including poor mucin clotting. Synovial fluid WBC counts range between 1,300-11,000 cells/µL (median 6,000 cells/µL), with 34% polymorphonuclear leukocytes (range 12-78%)."

But getting 2 rheumies to agree might not be very easy!

Don't really know about pmr but I know EileenH has mentioned that prednisolone works for PMR ??

i have had a knee drained twice ( have RA ) and each time ' depo' ( similar to pred) is injected in same place as liquid drained out. Do they do this for you? I m thinking not as you re having it every month. But maybe that would     help reduce inflammation
