Swelling in legs and protein trace.

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have trace of protein in urine also very less output of urine when I drink normal water. I have to increase my intake of water to increase urine output, this doesn't have any effect on swelling. So far not diagnosed with kidney problems but I think I have something going on. I get bad swelling in legs also some ache when I work more . Only time my swelling reduces to great extent is when I am on my periods. As soon as periods ends swelling increases, I am only 26. Does swelling reduces when one is on periods with kidney disease?

Swelling increases when I sit even for two hours. Or it seems some hormonal issue? It bothers me time to time I try to ignore this but I not able to.

You sound as though you have proteinuria and or nephrotic syndrome.  It can be dangerous to try and increase your water intake to force water output. Adding additional fluid will also increase the risk of raising your blood pressure.   I tend to  carefully watch my fluid input (about1.5 litres up from 750mmls) and have shifted the excess weight of water and most of the oedema (swelling in my feet, legs and chest). You need, as a matter of urgency,

to see your GP/doctor and have a full battery of renal and liver tests to see what is going on.

    Best wishes

I would definitely see my primary care physician and describe what is going on. I would also ask specifically if we should run a renal panel as well as check my urine. If you've got renal issues it is MUCH better to identify them as early as possible.

    Hi,

Swelling can be caused by a number of illnesses so I would see a dr to get a diagnosis as swollen legs does not necessarily indicate kidney disease. No one on here is a dr so I would see a qualified person and get some tests done and take it from there.

I am having this issue from last three years. Had blood test done with last check up in may 2017.

My createnine was 0.7. usually it's been .6. i am worried about the increase. It has never been more then .6. I have consulted kidney specialist and have been told to not worry about symptoms and my kidneys looks fine. But I am not convinced as I am getting these symptoms after I had strong antibiotics. I am worried that antibiotics triggered something abnormal in kidneys. And it is slowly degrading in its function. I tried to explain this to my doctor he denied everything and asked me not to come again. Moreover i have more hair fall , bad skin and stomach issues along with this. Please suggest.

I suggest you get a second opinion.  Not sure what country you are in but most health care systems allow patients to  see another doctor if you are unhappy or need to seek reassurance, Any meds can damage the kidneys but its rare unless taken in large quanirty or is a NSAID (Non Steroid Anti Inflammatory Drugs - ibupofen as an example.  Most Kidney disease is idiopathic or without cause in the first instance. Failure happens after time eith with damage or with age.

Go get  a 2nd opinion, ask for repeat tests and go with a list of questions. List your symptoms, what meds you take and what foods you eat particularly salts - do a 'one day food day diary inc breakfast, lunch, dinner plus snacks etc, fluid intake, approximate fluid out put etc.

      good luck

It may very well be nothing significant. And, as others have said, many things can cause these symptoms. So I would definitely seek another opinion. If it were me, I'd start with a primary care physician as a more wholistic look is what is needed at this point.  A primary care physician will consider all possible issues whereas a specialist will focus only on issues specific to his or her area of specialty.

I am scared now. Do you guys too notice swelling going down during periods. I assume reduction of swelling may be due to hromone increase for shedding blood. But I don't know if it effects swelling caused by kidney problems. I am just assuming. I Will definitely consult a new doctor this weekend.

Good! Glad to hear that you are seeking a second opinion. I know it's hard, but try not to worry. You're doing everything you can by seeking out another consult.
