Are you sure its a side effect and not part of the PMR? Always best to check new symptoms with your doctor too.

Jennis is right - you can't blame pred for everything! And having PMR and being on pred doesn't stop you having other problems!

I can't say more without knowing more, but if your leg is swollen, hot and sore go to a doctor as soon as possible in case it is a DVT. I had swollen ankles with PMR - definitely not pred because I wasn't taking it. It does happen and is mentioned in the literature - but it is more likely to be both sides although for me one side was worse than the other.

Can I make a plea here to anyone looking in - if you are asking about funny symptoms please tell us everything you can think of because we can't see and we are not a substitute for your GP. Many things we can advise about - but we aren't mind readers.

Also, try not to put in anything that might be mistaken for an internet address - it will disappear for a day or two until it is checked by a moderator. One way to deal with that if you want to put in a website address is to post twice with your question/comment in one and the link with a note in another. Certain words or patterns are picked up by a computerised screener - then wait for a person to look at it.

Good luck david. I do hope you heed Eileen's words. I am fairly new to this too and often read posts here. Often someone else asks my question which means I have not posted much. Let us know what your doc says.

    Hi David,

I am one of the few males who have this affliction.

It has been come readily apparent that everybody is affected differently. I have no problem sleeping while taking PRED, while others can't sleep very well.

I haven't gained any weight so far and look as I did before taking a few months of PRED. I do however watch what I eat and exercise every chance I get. More protein than normal, less carbs.

There haven't been any side effects so far (taking 30mg) and I hope that continues. I do take extra calcium and Vitamin D under the recommendation of my Doc.

Originally I tried to reduce the amount of PRED too soon and had a flare-up. Back up to 30mg and will gradually reduce that back down to 10mg…very slowly.

I hope this helps a bit and try to be patient.

    Shawn

I had the same problem, David. My feet were so swollen that I could hardly move my toes any more. My Doctor was horrified when she saw it and could not explain it. In my case it was certainly one of the terrible side effect of Pred. All what helps a little is to put the feet up whenever possible. Since I am down on 2mg pred. the swelling is only minimal.

All the best to you David.

Something that helped me when I had very swollen feet a couple of years ago - it could have been pred but there were several other options - was manual lymph drainage. I'm not sure how easy it is to find a practitioner in the UK but a physio did it for me here. He started with only the worse side but I could tell a difference within 24 hours and after a week I had ankles again! On both sides - so it saved me having another session!

hi folks ,i have had trouble getting on line , i have had this pmr for nearly 2 years now , and got down to 1mg prednisone a day , then at christmas i broke it down to 1/2 tab ,but have just gone back to 1 mg last week , now i have other problems like epilepsy , that im not on any medication on (i had so much trouble with side affects that the doc said its all i can do , its not the type that i black out , its the aura type , anyway its confusing what to put some things down to , like is it the prednisone that causes some symptoms or the epilepsy , but im also 85 in july and that doesnt help lol im usually an active old girl , but this pmr makes me so exhausted , i may need to go up more with the pred. i was hopeing to stop alltogether , im trying to build up my imune system by eating the right foods , cutting out all refined foods , , funny thing is my blood tests come back ok now my right foot is painful when i get out of bed or off the chair , as soon as i put any weight on it , ,,is it the pmr? or something else , , anyway i feel for all of you out there , im in australia , and so pleased to read others

This is interesting! I never associated my swollen ankles to PMR but last summer I got swollen ankles and feet and then in the October, I started with the wobbly thighs which progressed to achy thighs and then in January I got the claudication of the thighs. I now realise just how long this was coming on!
