I am 11 weeks post-op from tah and My stomach looks like I’m 9 moths pregnant. I have done exceptionally well in my recovery so I really can not complain. However my stomach is Swollen and I still have no feeling in the area but it still feels sore is some spots. It is Getting harder and harder to conceal under clothing. Anyone else experience this?

I'm also 11 weeks and 2 days post op from TAH and still have some swelling, but not as much as you're describing. I'm still unable to wear a lot of my clothes and need elastic waist bands! I've seen other posts where people have said swelling lasts for 6 months or more!

Arrgh! Doc said I may never get full feeling back in the area. I think that is what bothers me the most

    Hi there Roma,

I had a vaginal hysterectomy almost 4 years ago now (time has gone by so fast), my 'swelly belly' lasted for a little over 12 months before I realised it wasn't happening anymore and even now if I pick up something really heavy like a sack of dog food or compost then it will still complain for a while, most definitely a year though, for me anyway, it doesn't happen to everyone, I found support knickers were a help, you can also by a specific support belt, I think the link for that is on the 'hyster sister' website, don't get a support that is too tight though as it can make it even worse, it does all settle down eventually though

    Take care

it's now 8 months since my surgery and I am still experiencing the swelly belly but feeling in my stomach area is slowly coming back I do however try to stick to a restricted calorie diet and tons of water and have noticed a reduction in my stomach. i believe diet and exercise when permitted is key. i hope this helps

Other side effects I have are tons of burping and a feeling of pushing my stomach out when I am not???? Im so over the burping! I also am numb on that pouch and also on the inside of my leg closest to my vagina .... Numbness on the top of that inner leg as well.

i am now almost 18 months post op and just started to get feeling back in my stomach. there is still some numbness but so much less than before. i also just recently started eating plant based and the bloat in my stomach has significantly been reduced. my best advice would be to take extremely great care of yourself and patience is something i had to learn in this whole process .

I am 7 weeks post op, 40 years old and had a lapascopic hysterectomy and kept my ovaries. I have the swelly belly, I also have constipation since surgery, something I have never ever struggled with. Thank you for the thread, it looks like I may have a while before things get back to normal. My doctor told me it was a gastro issue and basically wanted me to see a different doctor. I feel like I have exchanged one problem for another but I will try to be patient and manage my diet as best I can.

Hi I hope you are fully recovered now. I am 5wks post laparoscopic total hysterectomy. My belly is hard and uncomfortable and nothing fits. Shattered and uncomfortable when I have only driven for 5 miles. Is this how you were and how long before you felt normal again?

hi jayne. what kind of a hysterectomy did you have? i had a laparoscopically assisted vaginal one, ovaries and tubes and all, on 26 may. i am now more bloated than one month post surgery. a lot of women seem to experience this issue. i take metamucil, dhea 5mg, vagifem local (does not get into your system, i have a clotting disorder). try tinkering with your diet, easy on fiber or things that ferment in your gut. walk, other light exercise. cut back on gluten and alcohol/caffeine. when i am disciplined it feels better. good luck.

My stomach went down 5 weeks post-op. It swelled up at 6 weeks when I was given the go ahead to exercise. 9 weeks and still swollen. Mine is not intermittent - it's there morning, noon and night, no break. My lower back is killing me, and if i exercise too hard - in a pool?!?! - I spot a little.

I've done some research, and there are some herbs you can take to regulate hormones, which can get out of whack even if you still have your ovaries. Some articles say fluctuating hormones can contribute to bloating and inflammation. Has anyone tried the herbs? i think I'm going to but don't want to create yet another problem to deal with.
