Hi all thanks for all your advise. I don't want to give up swimming as this is the only exercise I can do, and in the water I can walk, jump and do all the things I can't do on land. I am going to cut down to only twice a week and have a good shower when I get home, then put loads of cream on. Will see if this helps.

Just a thought- smother yourself in vaseline or similar before going into the water -

I've had no problems with swimming in the sea, are you near to the ocean? Also, husband and I went to Budapest for a few days last year, and I swam in one of the spas with the natural hot springs which have sulphur in them -I had no pain for more than a week after. Wouldn't it be great to live near one?

Kate207. I live near Torquay but its too cold for me in the sea. I have not been in the sea for about 20 years. Need to go Spain or somewhere like that for the heat. The swimming is for exercise so I have to use the pool for convenience

Yes I did.  I have since discovered a barrier cream which should avoid any burning (chlorine) but I have to admit I haven't been in a swimming pool again.  Name of my barrier cream was recommended by my dermatologist.  It's called Zeroguent and you can buy it over the counter.  Good luck.
