Hi Vanessa. I was told by the surgeon and physio NoT to do breaststroke for a year. All other strokes are ok according to them 😄

I was told not to do breast stroke - at least for a year, I know others have been told to NEVER do it.   As I now have a new consultant I'll have to ask all these questions again when I see him at the anniversary of me becoming a hippy in November.

I know the advice us no breastroke but I do a breastroke arms / crawl legs style I invented for myself ! It works - I think the thing with breast stroke us the extreme abduction of the frog leg/ kick bit which most prosthesis are not designed to do , plus the kick at that angle could contribute to wear and tear / dislocation . As ever I'm s firm believer that it'll hurt if you are doing it wrong . I'm swimming 30 lengths most days now st 11 weeks post op and loving it , but I just do a straight leg kick and put all the effort into the upper body stroke.
